I said it happens extremely little and you disagreed, so you think it does happen more often? And by the amount I would guess you would think it happens, is a lot compared to how it really happens.

EDIT: I agree with you bgarret, I know you are not referring to me however as bad as it is and I won't like it every time (just like the more serious things that a few have been convicted) but overall happens very infrequently and I would bet if his squad leader saw that, well, I wouldn't want to see how bad he would be chewed up.

Exactly. Please do not attack me for things I did not even post. I simply disagreed with your 99.9% figure.. only because there is NO way anybody knows this.

No, the immaturity stems from your responses:

        "99.9% eh? Alrighty."

        "Alrighty."

        And the rest....great arguments indeed.

And the fact that you made it your point to disagree with an obviously estimated and exaggerated statistic just shows that you aren't in this for anything other than to start trouble.

and I would bet if his squad leader saw that, well, I wouldn't want to see how bad he would be chewed up.

You got that straight. I think there is a presumption by many who think our soldiers are just out of control ugly Americans. That's the furthest thing from what they stand for, but we never, never, check on all the good that these people do. Just wondering how much contempt would be held for someone doing the same thing who isn't a soldier? Was it immature, yes. Does he need to be put at attention and get an arse chewin'? Yep, and I bet when this was discovered he got just that.

Does he need to be made an example of? I don't know. If he's a malcontent and this is typical behavior, yep, but who knows what this kid got invovled with the day before? A firefight, rescuing some Iraqis from insurgent violence, saving an Iraqi child from something, helping to build a school, giving out food to the needy? None of you know and I don't know, but I've been there and seen it all.

But this is one vet who isn't going to call him a "POS" or ask for his head especially when few, very few of these brave guys and gals are EVER put in a good light. And when most of us haven't a clue, not a single clue. It's just pathetic.

Is that directed at me? I do think the guy is a POS for doing that. That's not to say im perfect and never done something wrong, that was pretty sorry though.

How about 99%, do you think that's too high? As I said I would give the exact number if I knew it but again, it was an estimate and we all knew if it happened often or semi-often it would be on the news.

O.k. I understand where you're coming from.. I think you are going a bit overboard though. I was not attempting to start any trouble at all, simply disagreeing with another poster (who was implying that this sort of thing rarely happens, when in reality, none of us truly know that).

Listen man: I'm going to try to explain this as nicely as I can so don't be offended.

I've been there.....twice. Jackdog has been there. Shortsoldier is there now (at least I think he's still there) and I'm sure there are numerous others on this board that have been there.

0.1% of 140,000 is 140. Do I think that there are 140 service members out there that would act childish like this? Sure there are. But this is a blip on the radar screen as far as offenses our troops have committed out there. They were tossing water out of the back of a 5-ton for God's sake. You've never pulled anything immature like that to a little brother/cousin/friend?

A lot of people need to quit acting all high and mighty and take this for what it is.....just some tasteless playfulness.

As stated before, these are young kids.....some of them still teenagers. They go out on patrol not knowing if their convoy is going to be hit by an IED or what normal Iraqi may pull an automatic weapon out and start firing on them. Can you possibly comprehend the amount of stress that can put on someone day after day? We aren't talking about adults with life experience here, but young kids.

Your brain starts to get a little desensitized to what may be considered cruel to some and just playfullness to others.

I can tell you (from first hand experience....so there is your FACT) that the overwhelming majority (and yes, in the upper 90 percentile) act in a highly professional manner and make their country proud each and every day.

So please, before you (or anyone else) start throwing out any types of comments that can be construed as derogatory in any way about our troops, just try and remove yourself from the comfort of your room, computer, T.V., and any other pleasures of home and put yourself in their shoes.

My point in all of this is that nobody knows what kinds of shi_ (big and little) that goes on over there because there isn't a camera rolling 24/7.

I think the commanders that reprimand those that do stuff like that and are there 24/7 as well as a few soldiers such as Squint mentioned (and himself), do know.

Your post is why I want our troops home not just my friends who have been deployed but all our troops.... because even though some may never see any action (and for thier sake I hope they don't ) being away from home your love ones and any resmblence of comfort to me is unneeded. I appreciate our troops and the job they do I just wish they could come home because some of these very young men may never be the same because of the pressure they are under.

Yep, you posted it, "POS". Those are your words.

Squint, thanks for serving man. I know the pats on the backs don't come, but this is one guy whose gettin' sick and tired of just about everything about our troops being on the negative side. I just donated to Wounded Warriors and am having a book signing in December where proceeds will go to Wounded Warriors again
                              .
Maybe if more people would get more involved with most of the positives that come out of these young troops they might be more understanding, however, it doesn't seem to be very politically correct.
