Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Depends on how much he is willing to spend. Yamaha, Pioneer, and Denon also offer excellent receivers that do what you say, but they are significantly more expensive than some of the Onkyos and Sonys. I personally would stay away from Sony receivers, except for maybe their new high end model. The Onkyo 605 is probably the best "bang for your buck" entry level receiver that has HDMI 1.3 and allows for full passthrough.Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
I officially jumped on the Amazon deal for the A3- for $187.04, it was really hard to resist
Toshiba HD-A3 player
Bourne Identity and 300 in box
The Departed, Hot Fuzz, and The Big Lebowski (one of my favorite movies!)
I'm going to get The Italian Job, Pitch Black,Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Frighteners, and Darkman
I'm happy I finally came off the fence because I was hesitating even after seeing this deal. Once I saw the price down to 180 bucks, I couldn't resist. At worst, I have an upscaler because I refuse to watch my standard def DVDs on my TV right now
Thanks for the tips about the receivers, I'm struggling between the Onkyo 505 and the 605. The 605 was a bit out of my price range (being a broke student is great) but yall got me into Onkyo so I'll think about it for a bit.Last edited by Spectre; 11-21-2007, 08:07 PM.

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Not a bad deal.....I just wish there were instore HD-DVD and BluRay movie sales @ the B&M's. Would have been a good way to draw more people in.Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Well, the Sears & BB deals should get things going for HD DVD.
Who knows how well those BD stand-alone deals will do.
I doubt we'll see consistent B&M movie sales while the 5 free movie offers for both formats are around.D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment
