Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
I was just browsing ebay to see if there were any decent deals on Live Free or Die Hard and found the entire sealed Die Hard Collection on Bluray for only $59.99 with $2 shipping. And since I had $40+ already in my Paypal account, I only paid $18 out of pocket. Needless to say, it's not for sale anymore
I think the ebay route might be the best way to build a collection when there is no BOGO or B2G1 from amazon.Comment

That is a sweet deal. I think HD-DVD's and BD's are finally getting at a good price point on ebay. I bought Wolf Creek for $15 shipped the other night, while its going for about $24+ on other sites. There are so many titles at $9.99 Buy It Now with under $5 shipping.

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Anyone know of any deals on a dual HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player? The cheaper the better.
I am going to ask for either an HD-DVD player, or a dual player, for Christmas.Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
You would be better off buying a BD player and HD-DVD player, this way it would cost less buying both than getting a combo. Your cheapest bets............ PS3 40gb + Toshiba A3 = should cost about $670 with tax.....much better than that first gen LG dual player.Comment

HD-DVD player it is.
No way am I spending that much for a dual player. Or asking my parents to buy me one that expensive.Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Actually, I don't know what to do.
There are a lot of movies, in both the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray format, that I want. I don't want to buy a PS3, simply because I don't play my 360 all that much. I definitely do need both players though, considering Transformers is HD-DVD, and Live Free or Die Hard is Blu-Ray.
Woe is me.Comment

Here dude, Walmart has the Sony BDPS300 for $349 with 5 free movies. This is a limited time offer too on the price.
I'm not too sure how these players are, and Slayer might be able to help, but the cheapest you will find Blu. This war is just insane, and it would be nice for a winner already. But these players I believe are Profile 1.0, and not the new 1.1. This is one problem with BluRay players, no way to update them to the latest profile from what I have read unless Slayer or someone else heard something different.
If you don't care about the Profile 1.1 or 2.0 PIP like features, then these players are worth picking up. You will still be getting DTS...1080p, etc.
If anything, this Profile business with BluRay could hurt them more with early adopters of SAL players who could get pissed.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 11-30-2007, 08:16 PM.Comment

Yeah, those players are Profile 1.0, so not every new disc from here on out is certain to work on those players. Some will, but starting in January, an increasing number won't.
There are firmware updates available for the players, though. No telling if they'll add proper Profile 1.1 & eventually 2.0 support. The PS3 will receive the FW update for it, but the PS3 can do everything blu-ray related.
For the record, a Profile 1.0 player still has 401 movies & counting to work with, as of November 27th.
I suggest a cheap HD DVD player, for now. As you wait on blu-ray, the PS3 and the stand-alones will only get cheaper. Seems win-win, for your scenario.D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Would you guys pay 600 bucks for the samsung combo player? I'm considering it since Amazon is selling it for 800. I could sell my HDDVD addon for at least 100 and I have a 100 buck gift certificate. I'm considering preordering it. Any thoughts.Comment
