Which one did everyone here at OS like better? I have to go with LOTR just because of some of the awesome battles and the overall story. I felt so surrounded by everything that was going on in them. Even though The Fellowship of the Ring drug on in some parts the last 2 definantly made up for it. Anyone's thoughts or opinions?

This is just my opinion, but I go with LOTR. I just think the story is better.PS: You guys are great.

Being a long time Star Wars fan of episodes 1-6, I will go and say that Lord of the Rings was a better story. I really liked the movies a lot even though there were a few times that there were some gapping holes. I can't wait for the Hobbit.Comment

I'm assuming you're talking about the first Star Wars trilogy right? The second trilogy doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the LOTR or Episodes 4-6 (IMO of course.)
I still take LOTR. The difference between the two last films in each trilogy is what really separates them. I didn't think they could outdo Two Towers, but Return of the King did so.

I guess the old guys will say Star Wars and the young guys will say LOTR. LOTR was well done but it's missing that corny charm that Star Wars had and I guess most action\fantasy movies had in the 70's and 80's.Comment

Well I will say Star Wars based on the simple fact that I have NEVER seen ANY of the LOTR, nor do I want to. I dont want to sound like I am bashing them, i may enjoy the series if I watched them, but I have absolutely no desire to see them.

Star Wars for me. I like LOTR a whole lot, but it just doesn't have the memorable characters, quotes, and scenese like those of Star Wars IMO.

If you're not a fan of the book or haven't read the book (like me) then it's pretty much OK. Great action scenes and if you can get over the homoerotic relationship between all those effeminate dwarfs then it's a passable timewaster. The last movie was the best to me (maybe because I knew it was finally ending) even though it had the most drawn out ending in the history of films. If you've seen King Kong than you know Jackson fired all his movie editors years ago but at least he had more material to work with here than that 3 hour debacle with the horny monkey.
Star Wars just seems more fun and alot more replay value. Although halfway thru Return of the Jedi you could sense Lucas was starting to lose his mind and the series started veering toward those horrid prequels that have all the charm as a daytime soap opera.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 12-11-2006, 12:04 AM.Comment

Star Wars for me.
My reason being is that there was that old 1930's Serial Film charm to it. The characters were easily identifiable and characters that you could relate to even though it's set in a galaxy far far away in a time unlike ours.
I feel the LOTR movies drag on a bit and just too much of a homoerotic vibe going on at times.
Oh and while the 2nd SW trilogy mostly sucked Revenge of the Sith was a perfect way to cap it off. It's easily my second favourite SW film.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Star Wars FOr me Hands down...To me Star Wars Characters were waaayyy better, and while the story was great in my eyes...And Episodes 1 & 2 might not have been great, Episode III made up for it all...Might be because I grew up with star wars I dunno...but its not even close in my eyesComment
