Re: Fall Out Boy- Infinity on High

I guess I'd like to go back to hear when bands just recycled the same sound over and over. I know I have to know some/have the albums from some but just can't think of them...

But now the excuse for every band who puts out a record that some of their original fans dislike is always... "Hey man, they've gotta evolve"

It happened to The Killers just a few months ago.

I never heard FOB's original album, and had a severe love/hate relationship with FUTCT and the band itself. But this album has definitely made me think slightly better of them.

Pete still writes the same songs with different words with pretty much every track (if that makes sense.... hiyooo mitch hedberg).

"I'm Like A Lawyer...." Is definitely my favorite track so far. Poppy and sugary sweet as all living hell in the chorus, but still a great pop/rock record IMO.

I dig the rest of the album, but I've only heard it twice or so, so the jury is still out for me on how much the thing will be getting played.
“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on Sheffield

I've heard good things about this album. I didn't pick up their last album, even though I liked what songs from it that I heard. Since I like, "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race", I'm thinking about picking this one up.

After listening to it for a few days its good... but I click over to TTTYG and realize that its not really that great. When comparing this cd to the bands other efforts it doesnt touch there best. Not even close. I hope the next cd they get closer to that. I dont even want the sound back. Its more just the fluidity of that album. The trademark of a great cd is the ability to llisten to it from start to finish with no filler tracks. TTTYG had that, none of there other major releases have. So thats what I want back from this band, more than anything.

This album is quickly reminding me of TTTYG in terms of I can listen to it all the way through.. you just really have to give it time to sink in. I don't know how anyone can say that Under the Cork is better than Infiinity. Trust me, if you give it a chance it will grow on you. I've been listening to it non stop. Patrick's voice is undeniable.

Also, I have given up on trying to figure out which titles go with which songs.. I think I have 10/13 songs titled correctly.. but it's kinda hazy.

Agreed 100%. It's funny, at the beginning of this thread, I didn't like Fame < Infamy, and couldn't stand "You're Crashing, But You're No Wave" and now I can't stop listening to it.

I still haven't heard "Golden" but from all the reviews, it seems like a song they really could've done without.

Update on last.fm: Last 198 of the last 205 songs I've played have been Fall Out Boy. So to say I've been listening nonstop is an understatement.

And you hit the nail on the head with Patrick's voice. He really shines in this album, more than any other. He has such great range on this album.I went back and listened to Evening Out With Your Girlfriend, and it's crazy to see how much he's improved vocally. While it seems lyrically (not as many clever lines), it's taking a hit, vocally this album is wonderful.

LOL.. I finally got the names of the songs in order.. and I can now say the only songs I skip over are: This Aint a Scene, Don't You Know Who I Think I Am?, and Bang the Doldrums.

And Eli, haha I've never thought much of FOB lyrically.. seriously. It's sort of a joke actually.. but they make darn catchy music that is fun to listen to.

Yeah, not a huge fan of Don't You Know Who I Think I Am, but I'm currently listening to Bang the Doldrums.

It seems like a good drinking song, especially with the Yo-Ho-Ho's.

Oh wow, I didn't even notice that.. brilliant. That song actually isn't that bad at all, I spoke too soon about that track.

I think over half the tracks are like that. You listen, don't like it and kind of write it off, then go back and listen to it more and you're like, "Damn, I actually like this."

And yeah, those yo-ho-ho's are pretty sweet. I bet it'd be a fun song to hear, live.

                            Definitely my least favorite.

Would anyone agree with me that Patrick will still be a major force in the music industry, long after FOB is done?

He's talented (sing, guitar, drums), and his voice is improving every year.

Im really hoping at some point he goes off and does a solo project, turn into a more upbeat John Mayer type deal. With less instruments in the back ground.

I wouldn't mind hearing some softer songs from Pat.. similar to the EP they put out where it was all acoustic.. that sounded pretty good. But he should never completely stray away from the pop/rock thing, that's just who he is.
