I thought it was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to short. This is a movie they could of stretched 2.5-3 hours. The 3 tasks she had to do were kind of useless, they could of developed the story a little bit more aswell as concluded it better. Great movie but it seemed incomplete.

I thought the pacing was really well done and I don't think fleshing out the other side of the story would have helped because to me, the two sides were kind of reflecting each other, "obeying for the sake of obeying" as the Dr. says and Mercedes alludes to. To me, the war-time setting created a lot more tension than any fleshing out of the story ever could have; up until the end there's some tension and suspense as to whether or not Ofelia can trust the faun and his tasks or not; tension and suspense created not only by what Mercedes and the Dr. says throughout, but also because you just don't know. I think if the story had been fleshed out so that Ofeila would have known specifically why she was doing the tasks that would have taken away the suspense and tension.

Surprised I never posted in this thread...

I thought it was a really enjoyable movie. Personally, I wish the movie was more on the fantasy side than it was, but still a solid movie.

Just saw it yesterday. AMAZING amazing film. I felt cheated with the ending though. I really was expecting some sadistic turn of events.

Just saw it yesterday. AMAZING amazing film. I felt cheated with the ending though. I really was expecting some sadistic turn of events.

Not completely.... the tasks were somewhat extreme fairy tale subplots to both test and teach. I think the ending was somewhat unexpected because of all the horrific things that went on, but in the end, this is just a classic fairy tale story. Watch the extra features with the director's interview (not sure what it's called exactly.....but basically the making of feature).

The issue I had with the ending is exactly what you just stated. The movie ending, to me, was unexpected because... well, it was expected. I was hoping for this completely creative denouement and was left feeling disappointed.

I would still recommend the movie to ANYONE, though.

I thought it was a creative ending. Her life was so horrible that she was rewarded in the end. The ending just hammered home how much of a monster her step father was. He was more of a monster than she could have ever encountered in her fantasy world.

I saw this movie, not really expecting much. I knew people liked it, but it didn't seem like my kind of movie. But man, I was into it every second. One of my favorite movies, I too would recommend it to anyone.

That was one of the best, well produced effect I've ever seen.
