    Re: Grindhouse (Tarantino & Rodriguez)

Saw it Friday. I was concerned going in that 3 hours would be to long, but it flew by. I really enjoyed Planet Terror and thought Death Proof was pretty good too. It had a little too much talking for me, but the car scenes were great. I think I liked Planet Terror more (had more funny moments to me as well) but both were very good. I was disappointed in the trailers, they were not that good to me. I liked Thanksgiving and Don't...the other ones were eh.

Overall a great experience. I hope they do more.

Oh yeah, I like how some of the stuff in each movie mixed together with one another.

I just got back from seeing this. Amazing experience. I believe I liked Death Proof more overall, although I think Planet Terror was more in the vain of what the guys had intended. I agree that DP drags a little bit, at least in the first half, but it really picks up once he gets into the car; however, I think that if Death Proof had been first, the movie wouldn't have seemed to lag because it wouldn't be going on hour two. Overall, I thought it was terrific and I hope they do some more of these in the future.

Saw it yesterday. Planet Terror was great had a lot of action and some funny moments. Death Proof was terrible way too much talking about useless crap. I really thought going in that Death Proof would be the better movie boy was I wrong.

Planet terror was mindless & predictable.. Still liked it.. Death Proof was the real winner.. Kurt Russell was amazing.. I understand the reasoning behind the long dialogue scene with the girls.. & the stunts were amazing..

I agree 100% I really liked Planet Terror as a part of the whole b-movie, gorefest type movie that Rodriguez was shooting for when they started this project, but seeing Kurt Russell as a badass mofo completely blew my mind.

Not sure if anyone cares but figured I would post anyways. Grindhouse is set to come out September 18th but they are splitting the movies up, on 9/18 its Death Proof and on 10/16 Planet Terror will come out. I was really hopeful that they would be released together to preserve the way they were shown in the theater, or at the very least on the same day but I guess they decided to go a different route. If there is any positive to it, it appears that there are a bunch of extras and extended footage but still somewhat of a dissapointment.

I'll probably only pick up Death Proof.

What the hell. That's pretty lame that they're divided. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of Grindhouse? Oh well guess they couldn't pass up the money.

Anyway, it's been interesting reading through this thread, seems as if it's split 50/50 on which movie each person liked better.

grindhouse was for theaters. death proof and planet terror are for your home DVD collection.

Got it but how are they going to implement the custom movie trailers they created? Split them between the movies is a possibility but I thought I heard that some of thoe movie trailers were specific to the geographic location the movie was being seen in, although I could be wrong about that.

Very, very disappointing. I will be holding out in hopes that one day they release it like it was meant to be.

They're trying to make money because Grindhouse didn't do well in theaters.

                          Not surprised at all.

When I first watched Grindhouse (for free mind you) I thought it was very good. After about a month, I thought about it and I realized that the movie was typical Quentin and Rodridguez. And while I enjoy Quentin Tarantino movies, I can't give him props for copying the same formula.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Yeah, not surprising. After it bombed on the opening weekend, Weinstein nearly split the movie up while it was still in theaters in hopes to regain some losses.

                              I believe they did overseas.

It was meant to be a theater experience, but it bombed for various reasons. I'd think it would be lame seeing it like it was in the theater at home. The whole point of missing reels and scratchy film makes zero sense for a DVD release. Even so, I assume they'll release it together sometime down the road, it'll be another chance to make money on this. At least on DVD, we can probably get unrated versions or director's cuts or whatever...unless they were lying about almost getting a NC17 rating.

i wish they would just have the fake trailers part of the dvd menu on both movies and call it a day...i only plan to pick of planet terror, but would hate for people who liked death proof better to get shorted on the great trailers. and vice versa...
