Another question-do they actually pull off guitar solos on this one or is it more "modern"? meaning:either very short solos or just a rythmn break. I'm dying for some new long jams on the guitar!

Sick Sick Sick is the current single. Its not my favorite on the album and I think most of the other songs are definitely better, though I like Julian Casablancas guest vocals on the song. On a scale from 1 to 10, I'd give the album an 8.5. I actually think I like it better than R, but its definitely not up there with Songs for the Deaf.
Basically rhythm breaks, but haven't Queens of the Stone Age almost always done that? I don't really remember breaks for guitar solos on any of their albums. Thats more of a Kyuss thing isn't it?

Re: Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
I've only had a EP by QotnSA-it was a sampler and kinda strange. They get almost zero airplay where I live. Don't really know alot about these guys, guess my interest lies in Josh Homme-of Kyuss fame. I'd buy a reunion CD by Kyuss in a second! I suppose it wouldn't be fair to ask for a comparison between Kyuss and QotnSA-being the latter doesn't claim to be a new version of the former.Sick Sick Sick is the current single. Check out Youtube for videos. Dave Grohl played drums on the album Songs for the Deaf.

Re: Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
Its kind of like how Dave Grohl is with the Foo Fighters. For the most part its Josh's band. I think there have been members of the band that have stuck around for a two albums (at the most), but its essentially a revolving door of different musicians. I'm not sure how their tour lineup is either.
If you want to see Josh back on drums, check out Eagles of Death Metal.
