    The Great Global Warming Swindle

Anyone interested in the subject would do well to watch this recent BBC-produced documentary. It's 75 minutes long, but worth the time. Here's a link to the full video.

If this turns political, I'm locking it up. Let's treat this as science, people.
    Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Isn't nature or "science" as close as we're ever going in witnessing G-d???

I'll take a look at this later tonight. If it gets locked up i'm sure i'll post some kind of opinion on my blog.

I haven't seen this yet but I just don't get why people get so angry about even suggesting that global warming is happening.

Mainly because if Global Warming is as bad as some make it out to be then it could very well cripple the world economy faster then you can say "economic meltdown".

This is why I wholeheartedly support and believe that incentives should be given to people and comapnies that look into alternative fuels and conservation.

No the reason I get mad about it is it doesnt matter one way or other and it cannot be "truly proven" one way or other. Not to mention the rest of the world has bigger "real issues" to deal with.

Go ahead tell china to stop burning dirty fossil fuels, you really think they would take us seriously? Its almost impossible for us to back up a threat on the global scene this days.

The dont even has running water or toliets in 3/4's of their country.

                  1. Well living life without taking care of the environment in some way or another may lead to disastrous consequences for our children's children. This isn't a situation where you can think in the "here and now".

                  2. I agree about China but let's say there are stringent environmental standards throughout the major nations in the world. While they can't just bully China to adopt the standards of the day there are ways to push China towards it via sanctions and such.

                    1. I agree, everyone should do their part to take care of the enviroment. However, there is no real proof global warming exists. Its anti-big industry special interest groups feeding us the lie. Take Nuclear power it is much much cleaner then the coal power plants we have today, yet special interest groups made all of us believe they are dangerous. Because of this fear government enviroment laws make nuclear power too expensive to use.

It comes down to this, if your against spending money to combat terrorism, the other party's must use another great "social cause" on the other end of the spectrum to elect their representitives.

                    2. I cant answer this question without getting really political.

Combatting the exaggerated, fear-mongering terror threat, you mean.

Seriously, how was that post not OVERLY political. Look, I drive a hybrid car, eat locally grown organic produce, use compact flourescent lights in my fixtures, and find that trying to reduce my impact on the environment is only stretching our dollars further and helping my family live a healthier life.

To say that global warming will be the end to industry is bunk, since GM had electric car prototypes and hybrid technology two decades ago and is now pissing itself at night scared of Toyota overtaking their #1 market share, since Toyota saw the viability of the hybrid/fuel efficient market.

If it wasn't the simple fact that money grubbing CEO's hose their workers and worship at the altar of the holy profit margin they could instead work on sustainability. Instead of the quick buck, a more future thinking view would make the world would a better place. Pardon me for not giving a **** over the demise of the U.S. auto industry, when they are tanking SOLELY because they tried to surf the high profit SUV craze into the high gas prices of the recent half decade (post 9/11 and Bush's wars).

Get real. I prefaced this by saying it's a scientific discussion about whether or not we, humans, are contributing to the destruction of the universe by making the Earth dangerously warmer. This is only becoming a "right wing" thread because you're making it one by pushing your own agenda.

So everyone who would attempt to talk politics in this thread, please kindly just internalize your own myopic viewpoints and speak to the topic at hand or it's getting locked. I didn't think this would need to be explained, but amazingly, global warming in no way relates to our handling of political subjects such as the war on terror.

Re: The Great Global Warming Swindle

This thread won't make it past the night but there is no reason not to accept more environmentally friendly energy because even if global warming is a hoax, it is still healthier for us. There was a SI article this week about how the air in China is so bad from the massive amounts of fossil fuels they are using that marathon runners got extremely ill after running a race.

I think the reason why global warming has become a political issue is because liberals have largely been the ones who pushed it. It doesn't have to be this way. Moving away from fossil fuels will make our economy more independent and stop feeding money to bad governments in the Middle East.

Yep. When I read Johnny's entire post I thought I was reading something from the Democratic Underground. I agree that this is not a political issue, but seems to always get lumped into one.

To be honest Skerik, I think you should lock this up as it's already gone political and will only get worse. Your topic so I won't lock it, but I don't see this thread ending well. Just my .02 cents...
