Yeah, I watched my mom do it. Waking up in the middle of the night with the shakes for a week was enough to make her quit quitting.

No disrespect to your mother, but that is blatant evidence of no will power. Same reason fat people will never be skinny, they do not have the will power to exercise and eat right.

The reason so many people don't quit smoking, is because it is easier to continue to smoke than to give it up. If quitting smoking was easy, no one would smoke today. Nothing in life is easy, get used to it.

I am used to it, and I'm sure I know that far more than you. No disrespect? Sorry man but I take that as disrespect. I'm pretty sure if you were unable to sleep during the night because you were shaking, sweating and freezing cold, well you would probably smoke a cigarette to get a night's sleep. Not many people can go a week without sleep, its not a matter of it being hard and just involving willpower, it is a matter of health, and hurting it even more by not sleeping for a week.

I am used to it, and I'm quite sure I've worked harder in my life than you. No disrespect? Sorry man but I take that as disrespect. I'm pretty sure if you were unable to sleep during the night because you were shaking, sweating and freezing cold, well you would probably smoke a cigarette to get a night's sleep. Not many people can go a week without sleep, its not a matter of it being hard and just involving willpower, it is a matter of health, and hurting it even more by not sleeping for a week.

Give me a break, a matter of health? What about my health, when I have to breathe in that secondhand cigarette smoke.

The shakes, and night sweat go away. Destroying my lungs with secondhand smoke is permanent.

edit: What does it matter if you have worked harder than I have? How is it relevant to smoking?

There are far more important things to worry about than fighting a cause that hasn't even been proven to be worthwhile. Go fight the industrial companies causing smog and deadly water. I mean they poison water which I need to survive, seems like that might be more important than the air in a bar that I don't even have to be in.

I do not care about smoking in a bar. I do not go to bars, and If I did, I know what I'm getting myself into. I'm talking about banning smoking from public places. Places where if you don't smoke, you don't have to worry about secondhand smoke.

Maybe you will live a long and healthy life, and maybe you won't. I just hope that if you do end up getting sick from the secondhand smoke, that you come back to this thread and admit you were wrong.

I said in a previous post that if I die of lung cancer someday, I would be fine with any of the people who claim second hand smoke kills to come and dance on my grave while telling me they were right. I just really believe that people are making too big an issue of second hand smoke, because I have been surrounded by it for 22 years and have yet to experience any problems from it other than sneezing when first inhaling it.

Smoking affects everyone differently. I believe I read that you said you are very physically active; which definitely helps decrease chances of getting sick. That could be a big reason, why you have yet to experience any symptoms.

I'm not exactly directing this to you Blzer, this is for all the complaining non-smokers who cry about smoking OUTSIDE of all places. And no, I dont wish my fate on anyone. Its just that some of yall feel as I am causing you bodily harm with outdoor second hand smoke. For those people, choke on a piece of tough, dry steak, keel over and die. There are much more harmful products (handguns anyone?) and people to worry about than a little tabacco smoke.

You make good points and they are understandable. Heh it felt a little better when I heard that it wasn't just directed toward me.

Anyway, I don't know if I said it yet before or not, but I don't make a deal out of people smoking. I give them their space and try and get away from that "20 feet". I think that the one example that I could think of where I just really wanted to say something and couldn't (an outside example) was when I was at Six Flags Magic Mountain and in an hour line for Goliath. The three guys right in front of me were smoking for a good 40 minutes of the line. I was almost ready to leave the line, or I could have done something such as letting people go in front of me or kindly asking them to put it out. But, small as I am, I just stayed where I was and did my best to try and fight it. I mean it's not like the wind was blowing it onto me or anything, but it was pretty gross. And I wasn't the only one coughing in line... they didn't care one bit about it.

So, although that's a pretty extreme and rare situation, I think that's the best example of being outside that I could give that's happened to me. Like I said... I'm not going to be yelling for you to put out your cigarette. Chances are I won't even say anything, and actually do my best to let you keep smoking where it's not going to bother me. I just say ban smoking, but I hope you understand that's not a selfish act. Smoking may or may not kill, but let's take away that opportunity altogether. I would much the same ban drinking. I mean, let's be reasonable... neither will ever happen (drinking for sure will never happen again), but the day somebody close to me is killed by a drunk driver, I just may take illegal and brutal action to make sure that their lesson was 100% learned (and that would probably be the only reason that I ever would).


That would most certainly make for a daily stupid headline.

Anyway, don't want to hijack this thread anymore. I'll let it continue as it is intended.

LONDON - A first-class passenger on a flight from Delhi to London awoke find the corpse of a woman who had died in the economy cabin being placed in a seat next to him, British Airways said Monday. The economy section of the flight was full, and the cabin crew needed to move the woman and her grieving family out of that compartment to give them some privacy, the airline said.

The first-class passenger, Paul Trinder, told the Sunday Times newspaper that he was sleeping during a February flight from India and woke up when the crew placed the dead woman in an empty seat near him.
"I didn't have a clue what was going on. The stewards just plonked the body down without saying a thing. I remember looking at this frail, sparrow-like woman and thinking she was very ill," the newspaper quoted Trinder as saying. "When I asked what was going on, I was shocked to hear she was dead."
British Airways said in a statement that about 10 passengers die each year in flight and that while each situation is dealt with on an individual basis, safety is paramount.
"The deceased must not be placed in the galley or blocking aisles or exits, and there should be clear space around the deceased," the statement said. "The wishes of family or friends traveling with the deceased will always be considered, and account taken of the reactions of other passengers."
Because there was space in the first class cabin, that "allowed the family members traveling with the deceased some level of privacy in their grief," the airline said.
"We apologize to passengers in the first cabin who were distressed by the situation — our cabin crew were working in difficult circumstances and chose the option that they believed would cause the least disruption," the statement said.
David Learmount, a former pilot and cabin crew member who now writes about the aviation industry for Flight International magazine, said that each airline has to deal with the relatively rare situation on an individual basis. He said that diverting the flight would be an unusual move, and that the captain would be consulted before the crew acted.
"Personally, I think they did the thing that was the best thing to do," he said. "Really, you want as much as possible to isolate the person.
"It's an isolated incident. It's not as if it happens every day, but you do have to take in people's sensibilities when it does happen."
