    They left it open.

Elizabeth and a boy of about 10 go to the shore and look out at the sea for Will. They see a flash of green, and Will appears in his ship. That's it, really. Will has a son, obviously, and the 10 years are up, and they're reunited. What's in doubt I think is whether he gets to stay with them forever, or he has to go back to his job of ferrying dead people and he gets to see them only once every 10 years.

I thought that was a daughter... and I thought that he had to stay there forever.

Nope, it was a son. As for the staying there forever bit, I thought he would be granted one day reprieve every 10 years, but apparently it's not so clear cut, because of an alleged deleted scene that indicates he wouldn't have to (IMHO, it doesn't make any sense if he was able to be free from his duty after the first 10 years, somebody still has to do the job, and if he doesn't do it, he'd have to find another person to do it, along with a way of transferring that responsibility which hadn't even been mentioned in the movie).

Just got back from seeing it. While I agree it was entirely too long, the last sequence was absolutely amazing.

From what I've read the only way it could be transferred was if he were killed in the same way Davey Jones was killed (the stabbing of the heart). That is why he gave Elizabeth his heart to keep safe so no one could get to it and kill him. He only gets 1 day every ten years. Remember the scene on the Dutchman with his father where he talks about that not being enough time with Elizabeth and his father tells him it's not about the amount of time, but how you spend it. I think I'm on base here, but I'm not sure.

              SPOILERS:

My guess is that in POTC4, Jack searches out the Fountain of Youth, Will somehow is able to return to shore, and we haven't seen the last of Calypso, Davey Jones, or the British Empire. Will's son will have a larger role as well.

I don't think we see Will or Elizabeth in the next as they said they didn't want to do anymore. With that being said, I'm sure they could find some other actors to run the next trilogy.

                  SPOILERS:

There was an article on AOL last fall that, almost, ruined this movie for me. It mentioned that Will was going to "die" and Bloom more than likely wouldn't be back for a fourth (which was already being written in the fall, or at least talked about between the writers) so that didn't surprise me at all. They did say, back then, Elizabeth would return for a fourth, but that all could have changed since then.

I just saw it. I must say, it was a lot better than the second one. There were a ton of subplots going on and I was confused for a little bit, but I liked the ending of the movie. I think the series would have faired better had the plots/characters been kept to a minimum, but overall I think its a good trilogy. If there is a 4th movie, I hope its just between Jack and Barbossa.

                    Keith Richards was terrific, BTW.

With the way that it ended they really don't need Will or Elizabeth.

That's what I thought too, but after discussion on rottentomatoes.com, it apparently isn't so clearcut. Due to the fact that there was a deleted scene which stated the way the curse could be broken and the captain could be freed from his duty (his true love staying faithful and meeting him after the 10 years have passed on shore, which IMHO doesn't make much sense). So the writers apparently had plans for a happy ending rather than a bittersweet one that it appeared to be. I prefer the bittersweet ending, and there's nothing really in the movie that I can remember which would indicate the curse was broken (aside from the fact that there was an actual deleted scene which would have suggested it). But of those who know about the presence of that deleted scene, many prefer to think that the writers' original intent was preserved. I personally don't think it was, but whatever.

I saw the movie last night and liked it a whole lot more than the second one. Still not as good as the first, but sequels rarely are so I wasn't expecting that. I thought the first hour of this one was a bit boring, but it got good after that and I enjoyed it a lot. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Damn, I didn't know they had that scene after the credits. Walked out and a former co-worker informed me of it. Went back to the theater, and it was already over.

Can I find it on youtube or anything?

Do you think Knightly and Bloom will be back for the next one, which i am positive there will be, because of how they expressed they want out, but i recently i heard that they where uncertain at this point. I don't know if its true or not. I think in the end they will come back because they story is open for them to do so because of the curse could be broken controversy, the money they would get to do so, and just everyone wants another Pirates of the Caribbean movie and the last movie left that option wide open with the fountain of youth at the end of the movie.
