    I agree with the curb-stomp being #1. I thought the end of Saw would be in there somewhere.

    Also, how the hell can "I am your father" not be in the list?

      Saw is up there, just not the best IMO. After going through movies in my head, I'd actually put it higher than I originally said. But #1 I'd give it to Planet of the Apes, just because that ending made me sit there completely bewildered. If not PotA, then Se7en for sure.
      Just finished The Usual Suspects about 10 minutes ago. Great movie, nice twist ending, but I figured it out before it ended. Hell, the original twist (before the actual twist) got me. Knowing there was more time left in the movie, I knew the actual twist was yet to be revealed, which didn't surprise me much at all.

      * * * SPOILERS * * *

      I figured out early that Verbal was Kaiser (sp? that's how my hospital is spelled/pronounced), his story wasn't 100% what we saw (I learned that images can be distorted by how they are told, after watching Lucky Number Slevin), and that he wasn't a gimp. I thought the way that he told the other things (the Quartet, Kobayashi, etc.) was very interesting, and I did not expect that at all. I didn't expect "Kobayashi" to be with him all along though, either.

      * * * END SPOILERS * * *

      However, I have yet to figure out any of the Saw movies' endings early, and I'll try extra hard for Saw IV, seeing that they're giving us many more subtle hints and double-meanings in every installment than they did in the first one.

      Saw still has the most shocking ending of all time for me. Not only was I not even close to getting it, I almost gave myself a heart-attack seeing the end. That was a total "oh sheet" moment.

      I have yet to see the original Wicker Man, the original Planet of the Apes, or The Others. But the rest I will agree with... though none of them outdo Saw in my opinion. Of that list, Memento is the closest, but still distant. Hell, even Saw II and Saw III have had more shocking endings than any of these, only now they are almost tired because you expect that there will be one. Perhaps that's how I felt with The Usual Suspects.

          Se7en, Star Wars, and Departed... love all of those...

          but curb stomp by far is the craziest.

          I know this is crazy, but sometimes I was Meet Joe Black just to watch Brad get ping ponged between cars!

            Anytime someone gets hit by a bus in a movie gets a oh sheet from me.

              The guys that fight each other in the basement... Are they fighting other physical people, or are they just punching and kicking their own asses like Norton does?

              And all that other stuff with the guys dressing in black and doing the conformist/anti-whatever also seemed random and poorly done.

              I've read a few of Chuck Palahniuk's books, and they're kind of "out there." He's a good writer, and uniquely vivid, even grotesque, but most of his books have a "WTF" aspect at some point that ultimately makes the reader question the logic of the characters and their reaction to a situation. For me, it's a situation of "Great story, but why did he put this random crap in? Now I'm confused." Survivor is a good example of this. Good book, interesting storyline and characters, and then at parts it's just... random, even confusing.

              Choke is a great book, with a very unique plot and characters. Of his books, I've found Choke to be the best and most understandable, through and through.

              I've never read Fight Club, and having seen the movie first, I don't plan on reading it in the future. It was only coincidental that I ultimately discovered Chuck Palahniuk had written it, as I was reading his other books before seeing Fight Club listed with his other works.

              Generally, I am tired of movies where people are haunted, harassed, bothered, killed, or otherwise affected by other characters that ultimately end up being a split personality. That plot is so overdone lately it's just boring and a letdown when discovered. Hide and Seek, Amityville Horror, and Secret Window come to mind. I found all to be interesting, until the true villan is revealed. At which point, I am generally saying, "Oh man, not this **** again!"

              I don't know what the need is for authors to use the split personality. It seems like a cop out to me, and in my opinion, often results in a story being a letdown and an easy way to wrap things up without any creativity. It's also so common lately that it's not even shocking anymore.
              Amen to that. It stopped being clever a long time ago, yet I still see it being used. Identity is another movie that used this cheap cop out device. Someone mentioned it earlier. I think ExtremeGamer, and I just can't disagree any more. That movie's ending was anything but shocking.
