Directly, no. Indirectly this is what it leads to. Largely because ESPN has had nothing better to do than jam women's sports down our throats the past couple of years. With the way ESPN jams this down our throats, increased spotlight will come onto the game, and as such observations like this will be made. Hell, ESPN personalities have said worse things about players from FSU and Miami in rhe past and were never even publicly reprimanded. If these women want their sport in the limelight, they need to take the good with the bad. Making an issue out of it is the worst thing they could do, because like it or not they have made this the biggest issue of their season.

5 years from now, we won't remember the 2006-07 Rutgers women's basketball team made the National Finals, but we will remember Don Imus called them a bunch of hoes.

Yeah it's not Imus' fault for being an idiot, it's ESPN's fault for televising women's sports rather than the world series of poker or the darts championships. Putting more spotlight on women's sports does not excuse Imus from calling women hoes and Title IX is not to blame for people saying stupid things or ESPN "shoving" women's sports down your throat.

Yeah it's not Imus' fault for being an idiot, it's ESPN's fault for televising women's sports rather than the world series of poker or the darts championships. Putting more spotlight on women's sports does not excuse Imus from calling women hoes and Title IX is not to blame for people saying stupid things or ESPN "shoving" women's sports down your throat.

Increased spotlight equals increased scrutiny. I don't necessarily think what Imus did should go unpunished, but the bottom line is other personalities have gotten away with saying much worse about male athletes and it wasn't an issue.

Bro, Jesse Jack or Al didn't have to "stick their nose in it" and "make it a bigger story than what it was". To be honest, that sh** was major to me before they got involved. Man that s*** is just straight up disrespectful. I mean really...you have a white male calling a group of black females nappy head hos...man what kinda sh** is that? Just the fact of him referring to them as hos on the radio is enough for me. Imagine someone referring to your mother/sister/daughter/neice/wife/girlfriend in that manner and see how that would make you feel. Man that fool needs to be suspended longer than two weeks...he needs to be gone at least a month. Those girls were out there playing for a national championship...that was totally uncalled for. It's even more uncalled for when people try to downplay it.

Secondly, how can it be possible that a racist statement was made when he complimented the UT Lady Vols on their attractive looks? They have just as many black girls on the team as Rutgers. Someone that's supposedly making racist comments wouldn't do that. It doesn't add up. Hence why he was making a joke, that people took way out of context.

Lastly, when did "nappy headed" refer to black people? I've always thought it meant gross looking, or disturbing no matter the race. And if you've seen the Rutgers womens basketball team, that'd be putting it nicely. They are a hideous group of basketball players.

I may catch flack for this but he got fired because of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton threatning to picket CBS and attempt to get more sponsors to pull out of Imus' show. I always find it ironic when Jackson is out there spewing things about right and wrong when he hasnt exactly led a perfect life himself. I initially thought Imus should just be let go but the more I think about it I wasnt so sure, he isnt exactly a racist, if you listen to the entire exchange its meant to be funny, just in bad taste of course. Ohh well, Im not a fan of his but listening to Stuart Scott from ESPN say that the reason its okay for rappers to use the same language in regards to women is because they are taking the power away from the word and making it into a positive is a joke and I still cant believe that someone could say something so stupid.

I think you are absolutely right. I have heard far worse said about College Football teams that could easily be construed in the same racial overtone as what Imus said. This only became an issue because Rutgers made it an issue, and truthfully they were probably just more upset he said the Tennessee girls were attractive and the Rutgers girls were not.

I kinda feel bad for Imus. His career is done like dinner. It's not like he's a bad man it's just that he's said some very stupid things. I hope the loss of income doesn't end his work with disadvantaged children at his ranch.

The kids at the ranch are the ones who are going to end up getting the raw end of the deal. Imus has enough money where it doesn't really effect him, but hopefully the ranch can keep on going.

My only wish would be that if Jesse Jackson is going to march on CBS for what Imus said then he needs to start marching on the record companies that consistently produce albums that say the same things and in a lot of cases far worse. When a free pass is given to them but Imus gets torn apart by the media and everyone else, its just not right. I read earlier about how rap lyrics arent directed towards a specific group of people or a specific person and that makes it alright, thats just unbelievable to hear, so if Imus had avoided using Rutgers as an example and instead made a blanket comment about women in general we wouldnt care and he would still have his job? I highly doubt that to be the case.

The irony of the whole thing is that Cowerd and his producers steal most of his bits and "knowledge" from the various "little sites" that he is so powerful as to knockout.
