Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn Thing

Because of Girlfriend, I was worried the whole album would sound like this song. I'm glad it's not. The first time I listened to the album, I thought it was decent. But the more and more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. At this point, I can't say the album is better than Under My Skin but it's close.

She has a writing credit for all of the songs but I'm not sure how involved she was. I know a few years ago she was set to release a song with Michelle Branch with the proceeds going to charity. Branch wrote the song and Avril demanded she be included in the writing credits or she wasn't going to be involved in the project. The song was scrapped.

My favorite tracks are: Runaway, The Best Damn Thing, When You're Gone, Hot, Innocence, Contagious, and Keep Holding On.

The overall album is 'eh'... too many songs like "Girlfriend" for my tastes. "When You're Gone" and "Innocence" are damned good, though. I wish Avril would focus her music in this direction. Oh well.

The song "Girlfriend" is so bad that it makes me want to open hand smack anyone who voluntarily listens to it, including small children.
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the only version out there still the edited one? If so, I'll pass until the unedited one drops.

You know, as much as I'd prefer an unedited version, Avril doesn't need to be dropping F-bombs in her album. She still attracts a young adolescent crowd, and unless most recent hip-hop and rap have been that bad and influential to them this early in their life, I'm not sure how much their parents would approve of some of the language used in this album.

No matter; I will probably be looking for the unedited one as well.

If Avril wants to be dropping F-bombs, then more power to her. I'm sure she's wanting to grow up with her original fanbase and she shouldn't prevent herself from doing so just so she can continue to pull cash from the tween cash cow.

                      Well said.

She should not allow herself as an artist to be handcuffed by some perception of what she should or should not be based on her fanbase.

True, but I think what I meant to say is that her cussing doesn't necessarily give the song more power or anything, and as a matter of fact sometimes it feels like it's in an unnatural spot. I don't know, I just sometimes think she's using language just to use language.

Again, no matter to me, but my mom bought the last two albums for my 13 year old sister, and though I'm sure she's heard all of the words before (I hope she's not saying them, dear God), my mom is sort of paranoid toward exposing us children to such language, and I'm sure she wouldn't approve of it is all. I guess that's why there's the edited version.

From what I gather, yeah, but it really doesn't take that much away from the album. If it was say, an Eminem or 50 Cent album I would wait myself but being that it's just Avril Lavigne... eh. At the most, it effects 3-4 songs.

Why do you talk bad about rap every chance you get?

                              Um, yes.

All I'm saying is that this generation is more exposed to such language that it is almost deemed acceptable by most American families today, hence it may actually be possible that parents would approve of Avril's lyrics. My mom, however, would not.

By the way, you always seem to be on the opposite end of the spectrum yourself. We almost seem to satisfy Newton's third law ourselves.
