No matter how bad the kid originally felt her mother's actions made things much worse.
    Exactly.

Perhaps I could have worded it a little better, because I really didn't want to provide Alex with any excuses(even though I did). I just hope this was an isolated incident, and that some good comes out of it. Maybe even the mother will see the light.

Highly unlikely that this incident will calm Baldwin and Basinger. It's widely known as one of the nastiest, most vindictive, bitter divorces in Hollywood history.

Both parties appear to be egotistical jerks who will leave anything in their respective wakes to try to hurt the other party, obviously including their daughter.

Take out the tone, cursing, and the name calling and I'm with Baldwin on this one. What I hear is a father who is hurt by his daughter avoiding him. Sure he could've taken another approach or just handled it when he sees her. It seems like the classic case of the child being caught in the middle of a bitter divorce. This shouldn't have leaked and this tells you what kind BITCH Basinger is. It screams, "look, this is why I should be granted custody". Way to use the child Kim, who in the end, will suffer the most.

My mother has called me names before when I was a kid. The kids today are so damn soft.

I'm not saying you can't yell at your children.. but I'm with your comment above.

I think Alex should have kept his cool, but I'm with you on the rest SoMiss.

That's the whole point: It's not how he said it; it's what he said.

Anyone who objects to the tone obviously isn't a parent or is a parent who lets the inmates (kids) run the asylum, which is a recipe for disaster.

Well, we have an "apology" in the disguise of an "explanation".

                    http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movi....ap/index.html

Didn't know it was a violated court order, but the choice of words does not make it any less deplorable. I have no problem with stern tones either. But to say the words that he really seems to mean for Basinger are inexcusable.

I know Alec, I don't think Kim should've won any Academy Awards either!

While I see you guys point that what Alec was saying was basically correct I think it does not excuse his behavior. The truth is that he is the adult and should act like one. Besides the obvious child abuse that this is, and yes it is abuse albeit in the psychological form, this sets a terrible example for his daughter in how to deal with people, how to relate her feelings and how to control anger.

Ultimately I think this incident will cost him custody and i'm somewhat torn on whether it should or not. One incident should not cost him custody IMO but we are not privvy to know whether or not this is a pattern of psychological abuse or an isolated incident. I agree Basinger should NEVER have leaked this tape too but Alec should have known that by leaving such a rant on a recorded device the potential for that was there so it's really something he did to himself.

I got the belt and "switch" when I was a kid-all the way up to age 12. I would have preferred being called a name or two. (NOT EXCUSING AB's TIRADE!!!)

I got my fair share of the belt and switch but luckily never the name calling. Discipline (out of love, tough love, etc) is a totally different ball of wax vs. calling names. You can get over a whipping, but name calling FROM A PARENT is something you'll remember, IMO.

Obviously, Alec is saying this on his daughter's voice-mail, but he is probably speaking these things to Bassinger. Like someone else noted, this girl is in the middle of a bitter divorce and Bassinger, allowing this to be leaked, is quite the gem.

I'm sure they have both done things to hurt eachother, no doubt.

This voicemail is most likely a culmination of his frustration, and while it's on his daughter's phone, I'd put money in his heart it's directed at Bassinger.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.
