see the bad part is I used to work in that type of field.. when I got the nice woman on the phone, I couldn't... however, if it is true that they are actually fired (gag order on right now, but Op's brother is telling people to cancel)..

PS- they (XM) are claiming that the suspension is NOT from the actual comment, but rather that they "broke their contract" with XM..

In what way did they break their contract? By dismissing the negative comments the XM management made about the original comment?

I can only assume that they are claiming O & A basically blew off management after the comment - I don't know to be honest.. That's what the person at XM told me - nothing more...

That's what I thought, seems like XM management took things a little too personally and are going to be out a few million dollars a year because of it.

I have no inside information here, but I would venture a guess XM was looking for a reason to drop O&A so the merger with Sirius goes through. One would think if they really lost 47k subscriptions in a couple of days they'd have O&A back on the air immediately unless they had another reason for termination.

Would XM/Sirius really carry both Stern and O&A?

I don't see why not... Although the 47k I'm sure pales in comparison to what they'll gain with Howard's audience and the NFL deal.

that's what the word is... They are saying that O & A would "hurt the merger" with the incident. guess money talks.. I am trying to keep up with ths stuff at their "unofficial" website, but the server seems too busy. However, people over there are cancelling XM by the boatloads, & also getting rid of XM stock.. They had a nice feature on Fox News about the issue going on here... People are saying they are cancelling 5, 10, even 20 radios at a time.

Funny too - people are asking Howard fans to step up too, as it is for a cause - rather than some radio rivialry

Well I got the nice lady.. unlike some of the other comments I have read on what people had said to these employees, I simply explained that I am cancelling my account, as that some of the programming I paid for is no longer available to me. The lady said I was referring to the O & A show...
Said yes, & then she explained that they were suspended for 30 days & would be back. I said that at that time they are back on the air, I would gladly re-subscribe. She first asked about putting my account on hiatus for a month, to which I politely declined.. The rep then asked what other services did I listen to (told her the MLB, NHL, & some of the music stations), but that without having all the programming available to me that I pay for, I can live without the other services. She said she understood, & right after that is when she brought up about the three free months. That is when I waivered & agreed to the deal. Then we finished the call... (she kept apologizing to me btw). I am only giving them a 30 day repreive atm.

I know XM at this point is trying to save what they can.. I am sorry that I am a little "headstrong" with this point, & I do see where people come from (ie paying just to hear one group).. but there is a much, much bigger at work here.

Freedom of Speech is fine and dandy until you start being paid by someone who is able to determine what you can and can not say on air.

What if a homeless man said on national airwaves that he wanted to rape your daughter, or other immediate family member, and the hosts pursued the topic with him? Would those of you shocked that Opie and Anthony are in trouble be so willing to blow the incident off then?

Freedom of Speech is fine and dandy until you start being paid by someone who is able to determine what you can and can not say on air.

I see your point & I do agree that what was said was way over the line.

I am not shocked by what happened, but also feel there are lines being crossed that set bad precedent..

I'm not going cancel my XM just yet because I figure I can at least put Squizz and the MLB channels to use, but I'm not going to bother renewing after this year. The shear fact that O&A are/were on an XL channel on satellite radio should mean that they have some freedom of speech. But of course the XM guys just had to show them that they have power because they didn't shut up when they told them to

I took the 3 months. I'll cancel immediately if O&A's firing is made official. Screw it, I'll take the free XM . . . as long as my $ isn't supporting their bonehead move, I'll gladly take advantage of them, and cancel later on if O&A are gone or if I feel that the XM product isn't good enough to merit $13 with a watered down O&A show.

I heard that the deal is now up to 6 months, so you should probably call up and fake being pissed just to get the freebies out of the deal. Think of it as a "stupidity tax" for XM.

That's funny, the first thing I said when I got some one after a 45 min. wait was "I'm upset about what happened to O&A, I hear that you have a 3 months free deal, and I want it or I am cancelling my subscription." I got it immediately, and before I hung up I told her that I wanted my complaint noted, and that I would immediately cancel if they were fired. She responded by telling me that they are recording all of the calls, and that my complaint would be so noted.
