EG without the NFL coverage, do you think Sirius is still the best for talk radio?

Sirius is definitely the best for talk radio. No doubt about it.

IMO, they are the same. I got XM for baseball and O&A. When you look at their lineups, they are almost exact.

Everything on satellite radio is un edited, as far as music goes, cuss words etc. Like Stern and O&A.

Also, is there a certain radio to get for the car? installation pretty expensive?

I can't speak for Sirius, but on XM, the channels that are unedited have XL in front of them for language warning. There are edited channels.

Watch Best Buy and CC's ads, every few weeks they run buy a radio get it installed for free. You can get the nice Sirius Sportster 4 I think for like 70, and I have the XM Xpress which is 40. The Sportster is like a DVR though, mine is just a radio.

I saw on the Sirius webiste, Sportster was $70 bucks. So it's like a DVR and I can record shows and listen later, that's pretty cool.

That's actually a lot cheaper then I was thinking. I thought they were going to be like $150-200 bucks.

Some stations on Sirius are editted. For instance the Sirius Hits channel which is top 40 stuff and the other poppy stations play editted versions of songs. I mainly listen to the rock stations and they are not editted.

Sirius is free over the internet if you have an account. They have a premium online service which streams a higher quality sound, but I don't think it is worth it. Online streaming seems to just be the music stations though, not the talk ones. And if you get Sirius, I recommend you listening to the Sirius online stream through the Yahoo! widget rather than through Sirius's site so that you can see the names of the songs while listening.

i have the sportster ... i don't think you can record shows, only delay them. in other words, pause and listen up to 30 minutes. i could be wrong though. the talk channels are great on sirius. most of the music channels are unedited, it's pretty funny to even hear the djs curse and swear on some of the harder channels (punk rock, metal, etc). i though all xm channels had commercials, at least a few years ago when i bought sirius ... guess i was wrong, sorry bout that. also, the sportster is very easy because it has a built in fm tuner. just plug it into a lighter and set the fm channel.

The online streaming for Sirius isn't just music channels. There are the music channels, but also both Howard Stern channels, Sirius Stars, Sirius Patriot, Sirius Left, Raw Dog comedy, Laugh Break, The Foxxhole (Jamie Foxx channel), Maxim Radio, Playboy Radio, the NFL channel, and more.

And also, if you listen online through the Sirius website, the names of the songs and the artist do appear on the screen.

                        Re: Satellite Radio

I'd recommend browsing the FatWallet.com forums for deals and promotions. Satellite radio is struggling a bit, and I gather they'd rather have new subscribers, even if they aren't paying full retail.

Both providers lose a lot of business as a result of people cancelling as soon as their free trials are up, but the free trials certainly do exist, and it's something to consider taking advantage of, especially if you are undecided about which provider is best for you.

So would be better to listen online or get the plug and go kit or whatever it's called?

Cool, they must have changed it since I last logged on. When I got Sirius radio around Christmas the free online thing didn't say the songs, so I haven't used it since.

I guess I should have said not "all" of the talk stations are online like the gamecasts and ESPN. My bad. Thanks.

I had both until this morning (just cancelled XM due to the O&A thing)

It all comes down to what you like
I bought my Sirius for World Soccer Daily, Premiership Live and Champions League Live, but really enjoy a lot more. I love the NFL stuff, Howard of course, Bubba the Love Sponge, and the Metropolitan Opera Channel (yep you read that right )

You can get 20 dollar units for both services

Sirius- The Sirius One unit is 20 bucks and has a VERY STRONG FM transmitter. This was my first unit and is a great cheap unit to get started on. I now have a Starmate Replay which I really love. It's about 90 bucks, but you can pause, fast forward and rewind the channel you're listening to.

XM Sportscaster-20 bucks. If you or anyone else decide to go with XM over Sirius, PM me and I'll give you my sportscaster for just the cost of shipping. If I go back to XM once O&A come back, I'll get another radio.

I don't know about the music stuff for either channel since the only music channel I listen to is the Metropolitan Opera Channel and the Classical Music Channel on Sirius.

If I had to give the edge to one over the other, I'd give it to Sirius. I know many don't agree, but Howard Stern is the King of all Media and to me makes Sirius the better choice.

One more thing I forgot to add for both services:

You get online listening free and there is both a Sirius and an XM widget for the Yahoo Widgets Engine. It makes it easier because it automatically logs you in and you can hide the widget where it doesn't clutter up your desktop or make you keep a browser window open.
