I've looked at that Otterbox case a lot, but what I can't tell is how bulky does it make the phone?

I'm just estimating here by looking at it but I'd say with the case, it's about a half inch thick, 4 1/2 in height and 2 1/2 wide. About the size
of my St. Louis Blues Velcro wallet circa 1996

Any rumors on what features the new iPhone will have?

No idea on what the new hardware may or may not have, but here's rumors about the 4.0 software being announced Thursday...

Multitasking. Yup. If Apple's going to answer the naysayers, this is when it will happen. Of course, it will be done Apple's way (as we've heard, the new OS will probably still rely on notifications for most apps, and incorporate more of an "app-switching" idea rather than full multitasking), but the iPhone 4.0 will likely be able to run more than one third-party app at a time.

A new home screen. This one's probably a little more of a guess, since Apple didn't mix up the home screen, even for its historic iPad. Though, since the iPhone is a smartphone, and since this is one of the most vocal complaints we've heard from actual users of the iPhone, a new screen of information would be very welcome.

Better app management. With iPad and iPhone apps now out there, we've all got a lot of apps to deal with. From the longtime idea of "stacks" for apps, to the ability to remove official apps, to app gestures and navigation, the iPhone needs a better way to browse through apps, and it's likely that we'll see it this week.

Landscape mode/switch. This one's a shot in the dark from me, but when you play with the iPad, one of the first things you notice is that it's able to adapt to any kind of usage situation; even when you turn it on the home screen, the icons adjust to the way that you want to use it, rather than the other way around.

they definitely need to change the home screen. Something fresh. Maybe some different icons as the stock ones are boring.

I have one more question for you iPhone experts. If I have an 32gb Ipod Touch already.............and today, I was thinking why have this thing and if I get an iPhone, I can always use that too for music. Would you guys recommend going with a 32gb iPhone to use as an Ipod for music too? I know some like to have separate devices and I have been of that mind set in the past, but if I can condense, it would be worth it.

Any disadvantages to doing this besides the battery probably dying out much quicker?

Not really. I got rid of my iPod touch as soon as I bought my iPhone.

You may want to keep it if you use it around the house or on trips and such.

I use it at work to listen to music. I sometimes use it in the garage if I'm working on something, but other than that........it doesn't get used a lot at home. With the iPhone I can do the same and listen to my music without a hitch right? I feel like it would be a bit redundant to have both, but I can also see where it is a benefit.

Yeah, compare the battery usage vs. that of what you would need if a phone was added in there.

If you use it heavily at work AND use the phone a lot for browsing/calling/texting/IMing then you may want to just hold onto it just in case.

I have meetings everyday too, but my job consists of web content management, so I am at my desk most of the day. I wish I could move around more, this sitting down is not good.

If your ipod is charging while it's plugged in playing music, then the battery thing probably wouldn't be an issue. So if that's the case, I'd say you could still get rid of it.

I hate that with the radio apps you cannot play in the background. If you exit out, you lose your stream.

The Dan Patrick app plays in the background, not sure why the other radio apps don't do this.

Agreed. I love my ESPN app, but it downright blows that you can't have it play in the background.

the new MLB at Bat 2010 app plays in the background, so it's currently possible on this version of iphone and software


not sure why more don't do it
