    Re: iPhone Discussion Thread

I gotta be honest, I'm pretty underwhelmed with OS4... Multitasking does what exactly? All my apps that require sound (Pandora, ESPN Radio, YouTube) all stop when I go to a new one, so what the heck is even the point? Yay, it slightly loads faster now when I reopen it because I'm "multitasking".....

Seriously, pretty lame if you ask me. The best part so far is being able to have my wallpaper on all screens now.

I feel the same way about OS4............it seems to run things on the phone much faster, but I think my phone's battery now is taking a hit instead of this helping improve it at all.

Yeah, I like the wallpaper on all screens now too.

If you have Pandora open, double click the home screen button and then you can open any other app up and the music will continue playing in the background, before it wouldn't

Huh? Do you want Pandora to keep playing when you try to listen to something on ESPN Radio? Because if so... That's crazy.

Also, you do realize that the APP DEVELOPERS need to write the code and update their app to include any kind of multi-tasking, right? Have you updated your apps to the new versions?

Multitasking WILL be great, once the developers catch up.

Also, regarding the "bars issue," it's purely a display issue. You can still make/stay connected to calls. People that keep getting this issue over and over again have all been trying it from the same location, it's been reported that if you move, go outside, etc. that you'll be fine.

Yeah you will be fine, just don't hold the phone with your left hand and your calls won't drop. Or as steve jobs says, buy one of our bumpers.

My calls don't drop when I hold it with my left hand. Yes, the bars go down. But I can still make calls. As can others, because it's only a display issue.

And, Jobs didn't say you had to buy one of their bumpers. They said you can "simply use one of many available cases" if a display issue bugs you that much.

Also... this isn't limited to the iPhone 4. It's happened as far back as 2008, on a iPhone 3G. It's also been reported as an "issue" with the Nexus One.

Says Engadget... "What we can say without question is that in our testing of the phone, we had improved reception and fewer dropped calls than we experienced with the last generation, and we never noticed this issue."

Yeah I know it was a problem with the nexus as well. Being the iphone uses 2 bands, the 800 and the 900 bands, maybe it only affects one of the bands. Being that, not all areas broadcast both bands, some areas only broadcast one or the other.

So if you live in area that only broadcast one band and that band is the one that drops when holding in your left hand, that would be a major bummer for that person.

I am sure sure 3 or 6 months from now, they will come out with new iphone model that moves the antennae or provides better insulation between the separate attenaes on the left side.

Kind of reminds me of years ago when Sony told people don't run your PS2 vertically, run it horizontal, even though Sony sold it as being able to do both.

Sometimes it makes me scratch my head when companies be designing things.

                    Re: iPhone Discussion Thread

Easiest solution is to just buy a case. Be it a bumper from Apple, or, ideally, a better one with more complete coverage. For ~$30, it's a no brainer if you want to protect the device, regardless of if it had this issue or not.

its not just a "display issue" as you keep saying, did you not even watch the video that is posted on Engadget in that same article and also was posted in this very thread. It clearly shows dropped phone calls as a result of this issue.

Btw I don't think it should ruin anyone's experience with the phone but the issue is there and Apple should own up to screwing the pooch on the design and issue free bumpers to people with problems.

"Apple says that this is a bug it plans to fix, and that it has to do with the way the bars are presented, not the actual ability to make a call. And, in fact, in nearly all of these cases, the iPhone 4 was able to place calls despite the lack of bars." - Walter Mossberg

Im not sure what the complaint is about multitasking. Mine works fine. Make sure you update your apps. Pandora works like it supposed to. Plays music in the background while I do other things on the phone.

I know the difference between what someone tells me and what I can see with my own eyes there is a video in this thread that shows 4 dropped calls when holding the phone in this fashion. Come on man trying to act like the issue isn't there makes you look very fanboyish and naive....again it shouldn't ruin the experience of the phone because t can easily be avoided with hand placement but it still a problem.

I'm just saying... I have the phone in my hand, can't replicate the issue of dropped calls. Just the disappearing bars. Niether can a lot of other people.

Remember, the minority tends to be the most vocal a lot of times. Gotta keep perspective.
