I bought my 4 last August like a month after they came out and it took 2 weeks to get it. You might just wanna go buy a $20 phone from wal mart to close the gap if the battery is going that fast.

What I'm asking is how early do I have to camp out in front of an Apple/AT&T store Thursday/early Friday to be able to get a phone without a preorder? Or do you have to have it preordered to even get it on release day?

I'm a noob at all this - my parents got me my current iPhone as a graduation gift, so I've never navigated this whole "trying to buy on release day" process.

Let me know how long the process takes. I have 2 iPhone's and 2 iPad's to update. LOL

Can't wait to get iOS5.

I have had a problem lately trying to update my iphone. I'll download the newest version and it will get to the last step and then give me a failed error. I end up having to manually install it. Anyone have those issues or know how I can fix it?

No one has this issue? After a Google search most people that have this issue seem to resolve it by turning off their internet secruity, firewall etc...

Awesome - While I knew that you could modify every single sound for your phone (sans Push Notifications) in iOS5, I had no idea they would create a Tones Store for these sounds (like Texts and new Emails).

How awesome (and annoying) is it going to be with people walking around, getting emails and their phone screaming "Blue, you're my boy!!" or "We're going streaking!!" (Old School)

Yes - even on the 3GS.

You have a custom text tone per contact. You can also use your ringtones as text message tones - but that's a bit obnoxious, so don't do that.

So how you do restore all of your apps from iTunes to the phone?

I've never used the sync functions on itunes. I've always just dragged and dropped music from my music folder straight to the phone.

True true, but I can finally have, "You got mail motha-f'er" on my iPhone that phones were able to have for years now. Thank you Apple for getting with the 10 year old times.

If iTunes is giving you a fit. You can also get the free program called iPhone Explorer which makes it a synch.

My only guess as to why it took so long to allow custom text tones was it was a branding thing. Anytime you hear the Tri-Tone sound while out and about, you immediately think Apple and iPhone.

Since they now have such a strong hold on the smartphone market, I guess they figured it's OK to loosen their vice grip on this last bit of audio inflexibility.

That and they finally launched a text tones store. There are a LOT of people who will simply pay the $.99 (yes, that much) for the sake of simplicity.

Why's it useless?

It does everything I need (or want) it to. Provides a library for my music, has a great podcast directory, and allows me to buy/rent TV shows or movies when I have the urge, all while seamlessly syncing all my media and info (contacts/calendar/mail, etc) to my iPhone.
