You have got to be kidding me. The Departed and Resevoir Dogs are two of the better films ever made. I'll stick to my Dramas where they curse, than your comedies where someone talks with their ***. Both of those movies are Dramas, not comedies. Why would you think they were comedies?

The Departed is a movie about a mole in the Boston State Police and within the Irish Mafia. When a movie involves spies and the mafia, you should know there will be cursing.

True, something about Mary was quite funny as well.

At what point does it get a little excessive. I liked the storyline to both of those movies alot. The story could have gotten across without the f-word and een much better. Sure, there are times to use it when it applies...but it every piece of dialogue spoke by every character to the point a 90 year old grandma sounds like a 30-year-old trucker? Come on.

At no point did I say I found Ace to be talking out his rear end to be a funny part of that movie. I just said the movie was funny. Many Many Many other funny parts to that movie. Until the sequel came along.

I should have divided my opinion about the f-word into two paragraphs because it does read as though I think the Departed and Resevior Dogs are comedies...I was just using the two quickest examples I could think of where the word ruins the movie.

Comedy examples could be 40-Year Old Virgin, and judging by some quotes I've heard, it doesn't seem as though Knocked up is short on it. Granted they were both written by the same guy, but I know there are others...it is just early and my brain isn't thinking just yet.

It just seems as though the writers hit a blank spot in their dialogue and go"...hmmmm....what to write...what to write....oh ****.....hey...that's good."

F-bomb ruining The Departed/Resevoir Dogs? These are gritty dramas, not after-school specials. And I know several people in my life (one from Boston) who uses the f-word as much as the characters in The Departed.

What the **** is your problem with ****?
I also know several people from the area, including my roommate last year, but he didn't drop the bomb. And I lived in the same dorm as several people who use the f-word that often...you know what happens? I don't listen to them, ever. If you can't get a point across without the word, you shouldn't be trying to get a point across. i don't want to have to sort through the vulgarity to find out what they are saying.

Ntice that a majority of the films listed have been made in the last 10 years and very few are from before 1990. Did that mean they didn't have gritty dramas? Doubtful. They were just cleaner.

I guess I have never understood what the problem with the (or any curse word) is. It is just a word. The only reason it has a stigma is because our society has placed a stigma on it. If 500 years ago the powers that be decided that "gnargle" was a bad word, that word would be frowned upon today. In England, bloody is considered a curse word. Here it is merely an adjective to described someone covered in blood.

My point is, if you are bothered by language then you are probably taking yourself a little too seriously (or you are crazy religious).
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not saying cut it out completely....there are times when it is neccesary, but more than 100 times in a 120 minute movie?

Just imagine if you will a sentance in the next movie you watch being "Gnargle, I Gnarglin love your Gnargle Gnarglin dog." Even though it is not a vulgar word, is it not still VERY annoying? Now insert a vulgar word in there and you have yourself a blockbuster drama.

I have to admit, I laughed a little there.

I guess I have never really paid too much attention to foul language. I guess it is more of a part of my vernacular than other people.

When is vulgarity necessary? Sounds like you worry a bit too much about this, in my opinion. I don't discount your movie taste though, to each their own like everything else.

I loved 40 year old virgin, and I think Knocked Up is the funniest movie I have ever seen. I also love the Major League movies... ****in classic

Vulgarity is necessary in any Kevin Smith comedy...I mean what other movie is threatened with the cudgel of an NC-17 rating purely for LANGUAGE?

                    'Clerks' is comedy gold!

                          Classic compared to what?

                          The Producers (1967)
                          Life of Brian

                          Airplane!
                          Groundhog Day
                          Clerks
                          The Big Lebowski
                          High Fidelity
                          Bubba Ho-tep
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Those are just a smattering of movies over the past four decades that are much funnier. The list could no doubt be added ad infinitum.

Comedy is entirely subjective, so while I feel the movies above exceed 'Meet the Parents', some misguided folks think the latter, and dog **** like 'Zoolander', are the pinnacle of comedy.

Every movie you guys have named is funny to me... Talking with you ***, come on thats funny stuff. Really how often do you see that? you at least have to chuckle because it is so utterly stupid! Profanities... I don't know, we are all adults and its just a word, we have all laughed at curse words since we were 6 years old. I can't explain it they are funny. But you can't go use them in real life like that or your might get slapped.

I will add few more movies to the list:

Grandma's boy (I saw that the other day really funny stuff)
                            and any Monty Python movie
