All I'm getting is a single screenshot.

    Is that it?

Very cool trailer, I just don't want it to be Godzilla. Maybe it's the smoke monster

The prequel to LOST's 4th season!

Or it could be a cool movie. Either way.

              Re: J.J. Abrams Trailer

Just discovered that this movie is being produced, NOT directed, by J.J. Abrams.

              Changes everything, really.

Seems like they are attaching his name to sell a movie that might just end up being garbage.

                Re: J.J. Abrams Trailer

And for those interested, Matt Reeves is the director of Cloverfield.

His only other directing credit is "The Pallbearer" which got terrible reviews.

However, digging up some dirt on Reeves I discover that he was a writer/creator/producer for "Felicity" which was also written/created/produced by J.J. Abrams. So, there's the connection.

They did not work on Alias together.

Man that's really disappointing about Abrams not doing the movie... Either way, it still goes down as one of my favorite trailers in a long time.

they're going viral with this whole movie... we already know about www.1-18-08.com, but now there's other stuff with a character named Ethan Haas...

http://ethanhaaswaswrong.blogspot.com/ Here's a blog that was created in July and the only post is about Ethan Haas.

That BAD ROBOT produced trailer that touts J.J. Abrams name and has a cute moment with the Statue of Liberty... well, that's the start of what promises to be a very unique marketing campaign. What's the title of the film? Well, the cover name is CLOVERFIELD, but that is not the title of the film. In fact there is no title for the film - and I wouldn't put it past JJ to release a film with no title.

Now What Is The Film About?

That's been tightly underwraps too. However, I've been hit with a tidbit that has me very curious. Here's one of several emails I've received about this project...

                    Hey Harry,

I'm sure you are already on top of this, but if you're not, google "Ethan Haas". There are two new viral sites for the new JJ Abrams project, and some of the names thrown around on the sites, including Mezin, Alhazred, and references to a "Mad" prophet lead me (and several bloggers) to believe this project has something to do with Lovecraft's Old Ones.

Please jump all over this one and let us know what the hell is going on! A JJ Abrams Lovecraft project would be unreal!!!

                    Aaron

Well - doing that leads you to this painfully annoying site: EthanHaasWasRight.Com

At this stage - it's a rumor. Is JJ playing with Cthulhu? Is this film about the ancients returning to tear our world asunder? Is it really going to be captured entirely through hand held cameras operated by us mere ants? OR - is that just the marketing push?

                      Re: J.J. Abrams Trailer

After reading the above the only thing that could save this movie for me is if J.J. Abrams either wrote or cowrote the script with Reeves.

If that is the case then I'll trust in the quality of the film's plot.

The marketing campaign and interesting plot (from what I gather in the above post) screams J.J. Abrams and his crazy ideas. Always a good thing to get that.

It was written by Drew Goddard (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Alias, Lost)

Also, /Film seems to be following this really closely: http://www.slashfilm.com/tag/cloverfield/

Here's a clip about the casting:
The casting process was just as mysterious. No scripts or even scene pages were sent out; agents who were contacted were simply asked if their client wanted to be in the movie or not. Eventually a cast, made up mostly of relative unknowns, was put together; it includes Michael Stahl-David (”The Black Donnellys”), Odet Jasmin, Mike Vogel (”Supercross”) and Lizzy Kaplan (”The Class”).
