Wow, some of y'all got some garbage movies in your top 5.
Here's mine:
5. The Goonies - My favorite movie as a child. Most likely my most watched film. The characters work together really well, and it's funny and imaginative. If it had come out this year, I probably wouldn't be thinking the same thing, but growing up it was a classic for me.
4. The Departed - Probably the best cast of characters in a movie I've ever seen. Plus the ending is badass.
3. Pulp Fiction - Just a great all-around movie. Really great dialogue, quirky stories, a good mix of action and storytelling, and an awesome soundtrack.
2. City of God - The best gangster film ever made. It's foreign. Watch it in subtitles. If you're one of those people that can't watch a movie with subtitles... get over it, you're depriving yourself. I've seen it three or four times, and I think it's better than The Godfather, and definitely better than Scarface, Casino, or The Untouchables. It's a different style of movie than the ones I just mentioned, and I think it is more well-done.
1. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - Saw it about a year or two ago, went into it thinking it was going to be another corny, boring Western. Wrong. Clint Eastwood plays the coolest, most dangerous good-guy I've ever seen in a movie. His short, witty lines, and laid-back demeanor made me want to walk around chewing on straw, squinting at people, and giving them brief, smartass remarks.
Tuco, played by Eli Wallach, is probably my favorite villain of all time. He is absolutely ruthless, will manipulate anyone, but does some really funny stuff throughout the film. He's the perfect character to play alongside Clint Eastwood's.
The soundtrack is the best I've ever heard. The slower moments of the film are improved by the fact that the soundtrack is so good and that these moments actually develop the characters and the story. Also, Sergio Leone is a top 5 director of all time... this being his best and most acclaimed film.
You guys gotta see this one if you haven't yet. It's a man's movie.
Some other movies that I really, really liked but didn't quite make the list:
Aliens, Apocalypse Now, Fight Club, Leon, Memento, Seven, The Usual Suspects, Seven Samurai, No Country For Old Men, Unforgiven, Training Day and Killa Season.
