These guys are all underground, and still completely SLAY any mainstream artists today.

Even still, you're cutting yourself short if you can't find an MC out there who has both of these qualities. Unfortunately, none of these guys really exist in the mainstream (save maybe Eminem and Jay-Z, both of whom are pretty much sellouts at this point), so all you end up getting are rehashed club joints (i.e "Snap Yo Fingers" and "It's Goin' Down," "Magic Stick" and "Candy Shop" to name a few) that get boring after awhile. Combine the fact that with *earmuffs*ty lyrical content and ability, and it's like nails on a chalkboard.

Like many people said out here, go educate yourself a little bit. If you're looking for a start, check out "Bayani" by Blue Scholars or "Hunger Strike" by Silent Knight. If you don't like either of these albums, hip hop PROBABLY isn't for you. This is fine, but at least you can fully understand the spectrum of what you're talking about.

      Good riddance.
Man you hit it right on the head! Im a teacher in a middle school & when Im there I try to educate these young dudes, but they all what to be Lil Bootise or 50! Im @ one of the worst if not the worst school in the area so you can only imagen what its like. I saw one of my kids the other day & asked him what he'd done this summer and he said "Trap"! I wanted to take my belt off and whoop his a$$. I know alot off this has to do with how things are @ home, but I(this is just me talking) feel hip hop has so much to do with how our young black males act. Im 29 and have been a hip hop head as far back as I can remember. I like Kanye not so much Ja Rule I mean 50, so I hope Kanye's album kills 50's.

I'm trying to get 50 out by buying Kanye's CD on iTunes, and I pressed Pre-Order but it hasn't taken $ out of my account and I haven't gotten CRS, did I do something wrong?

writing rhymes in rap and making it all coherent and dope is harder than writing any other song's lyrics. Most of the time i'll read someone's profile with some love song genre of music and the lyrics are so corny and half the time don't make sense or more importantly DON'T RHYME...

Rap takes more talent than any music you most likely listen to.

Spoken like a true *****. Rapping is harder than it seems, much like making beats is harder than it seems (I'm actually surprised none of you no-reason-excuse-spouting-haters haven't brought up production). Writing a song, no matter what genre it is in, takes a degree of talent. For it all to make sense, flow nicely, and rhyme (not always a must-have for me personally) takes just as much talent as any rock lyricist. That's just the lyrics. Rapping isn't just talking fast. There's the flow, the tone of voice, attitude, and most importantly how much life there is in a rapper's voice. Not just anybody can write down some rhymes and rap, just like not just anybody can write down a couple lines and sing a verse.

The song "The Trap" is exactly what most RAPPERS!!! are into. Record label reps just snatch them up, give them a sound, let them make some money. Hip hop is Basic Vocab and what they represent.

And if anyone talks to any English teachers who aren't closeminded they'll tell you that rap contains some very difficult things that people don't notice when they're just listening. And anyone who could criticize a good producer has no idea what they're talking about. Most producers are musicians anyway and sample themselves playing stuff.

This. While there are many major producers out there that simply take old songs and throw in their own mixes of it with beats (still a difficult thing to do at times), there are also a hugely disproportionate number of producers who play everything themselves. I've heard songs where what is played could be consider its own full song, front to back, chorus and everything. Not everything is repeated beats over and over. You have to know when to pick up the tempo, slow it down, switch up the sound a bit, etc. You have to know what instruments sound good together, and when to mix in less well known sounds. Really good production isn't five notes constantly throughout the course of the song.

I'll never forget the one time I walked into an Apple store to check out the music software they offered, and some guy was standing near a rig hooked up with an electric keyboard and Logic Pro music production software. The dude was creating some of the dopest beats by playing the keyboard and throwing in some drums and cool effects. You could tell he was a musican because he was playing a complex hip hop tune I had never heard before on a sound setting that was too unique. I found myself bumping my head instantly.

Being a good rap artist isn't just writing down simple line by line poetry and reading it. It's about flow, understanding of the beat, voice change (depending on emotion, language, background production, etc), attitude, and lyrics. I can write pretty good poetry, but I fail completely as a rapper. I just don't have the swagger, the control, the confidence, or the flow. Different artists are all good at different things. Some are great lyricists, whose sound comes off as complex poetry (Common, for example), while others kill it with ridiculous flow and simple metaphor (Royce Da 5'9"). Saying rappers sound all the same is like saying John Mayer sounds like Justin Timberlake.

I don't have to really explain any more. You either haven't heard of any of the artists I'm talking about, are completely ignorant, or both. Saying you think all rap music is garbage is completely misguided. Good hip hop is basically like poetry but with about 5 additional degrees of difficulty and more expectations. You don't have to LIKE it, but there is virtually no way you can argue that creating a genuinely good rap song doesn't take skill.
