Re: G.I. Joe movie
I'm interested in seeing it this weekend; my girl definitely wants to see it since she liked the trailer and we haven't been to the movies in a month. Trying not to buy into the Rottentomatoes rating for now since there are so few A-list reviewers. But at least doesn't look like the movie will be a total disaster as I initially thought it wouldHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

The last I had heard was that this wasn't being screened for critics before its release.

Re: G.I. Joe movie
Just saw the movie with my kids. And it wasn't as bad as I thought. I did have low expectations though. Watch the trailer and imagine it an hour and a half longer, that's the movie. Lots of action, over the top stuff just what you'd expect. As far as kids go it wasn't bad at all. Not much cussing and if they do it is s or a bombs only. Only a couple kissing scenes..nothing intense. One scene of a girl laying in bed and a you see her undies, but not in a provocotive/adult manner. There is some kinda gross scenes with characters on par with Two Face from TDK...hell, I thought it was good, did its job.Comment

Re: G.I. Joe movie
Seen it at midnight last night, Spur of the moment thing, all I got to say is there were good parts and bad parts.
The Bad:
CGI! There were some parts where the CGI did not mix well at all with some of the scenes, Example: The excelerator Suits.
Story, GI Joe Related: I dont know much about GI Joe but I dont remember commander cobra coming into power the way he did and etc. Sure there are other things off.
The Good:
Fight Scenes: Some of them were really great, expecially the ones with snake eyes in it. Lol.
I really cant review a movie like this well mainly because I never really watched GI Joe enough so take this review with a grain of salt...lol.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

Re: G.I. Joe movie
Just got home from watching it and while my expectations were low, I actually liked it. The story is cliche, but made sense and the action scenes actually flowed with the storyline unlike Transformers 2.
Some of the lines are laughably bad and the CGI could use some work, but overall, I enjoyed it.Comment

Re: G.I. Joe movie
The more I thought about it, it is a well done live-action cartoon. Cliches all around, the bad guy talks with a growl...not an ugly woman in the whole movie. Over the top stunts. It is like watching a GI Joe Cartoon. If you know what to expect going in, you'll enjoy it alot more.Comment

Re: G.I. Joe movie
I had no expectations other than be entertained and this movie failed at that horribly, except that I could laugh at how stupid everything was.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: G.I. Joe movie
This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's a growing list, but GI Joe belongs on it. I had no intentions of watching this but a few friends wanted to and they invited me out so I figured I'd join. I wish I stayed home.
First the obvious from me:
The plot was horrible. It wasn't actually ridiculous or over the top, but it was poorly contrived and executed. It's what you expect: The Joes have to save the world. Ok, that's a basic enough premise that's just about the only thing you can do for this movie, so no harm there. However, not once during the film are you ever in fear or at the edge of your seat as this threat becomes real. It's sort of just passe and the film loses focus way too much.
Also, the film falls into the trap of being extremely predictable in how it goes about resolving conflict. It really felt as if it were pulled out of an 80's storyline. The problem is that movie-goers are immune to these tricks. How many times does something have to be feet away from impending impact before you realize that the audience is only going to yawn when the hero pulls out of danger?
The smaller story lines (relationships, the obligatory switching of sides to aid your enemy) were just as weak. There was little motivation to most actions except for screaming and anger and the development of both relationships in the film are ridiculous. One girl basically goes from "leave me alone" to dropping a kiss in a matter of a few scenes and there was no real action made by the male to push her to entertain him as a prospect. Not to mention that their relationship immediately afterwards seems to hit a rock as they almost fail to acknowledge each other's presence. It's as if the scenes were shot out of order (that's expected) and they didn't give the actors the pages from the script or explain how they should behave around each other later in the film.
This is all important because that's how most of the film is captured. Motivation is severely lacking in important scenes and emotion is poorly captured on screen.
So, since most people don't give a crap about the above because "IT'S AN ACTION MOVIE!" lets talk about that.
The action was just as horrible. The fight scenes were not that dramatic and even the most exciting scene in the film was enveloped in poor CGI effects, terrible one-liners, and the second time we see someone pull off their shirt in an effort to represent their acuity. Uh, ok.
Moments of actual suspense and thrills were cut short by poor editing (either that or they just didn't shoot the scenes) taking away from the moment. Cutting away from someone getting shot or someone dying makes no sense when effort was made into putting the heroes in the predicament. This is similar to curious nude scenes in film where you'll cleverly cover up a woman's naked body twice in the film and then 20 minutes later show that same woman's body in the nude. Why cover it up the first two times? And if getting a lower rating is the reason why, then perhaps the director and editor should consider the actual purpose of the nudity. Guess what, it has no place. The same can be said for most of these actions scenes. Don't put the heroes in these predicaments so that you can cut short the resolution. It leaves the audience feeling empty.
The effects used in the film were ho-hum and looked very amateurish. Most of the effects were not even necessary and if left out would have actually made the film better. There was no purpose to including abilities and specific scenes than to just say that the movie had CGI in it.
It really seemed as if the studio dropped down a whole lot of money and said: figure out where to spend it so the director plotted ways to throw in that extra helicopter or aerial shot just for giggles.
What a stupid movie."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
