That's good news, but what I don't understand is why they want to to condense their 16 episodes down to 13. Everybody just had 3 months off, why don't they work a little longer and get those last 3 episodes in. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why (network, actors, etc), but seriously, they don't start the next season until 2009 anyways, go ahead and finish this year all the way.

Anyone else getting screwed by V-Day this Thurs? Unfortunately I've got a full night out w. the wifey so I'll have to wait til Fri to catch this week's episode. Boooooooo!

Good news on the extended season though, but as others said it's kinda odd to do 13 and not 16. At least we're guaranteed to never have a filler episode.

I don't know about not having filler episodes. With the introduction of these 4 new characters, if they don't have a significant impact on the entire story as we know it, all their flashforwards and flashbacks are essentially "filler".

I think they will have a large impact, they entire marketing angle around S4 has been these people coming to the island. It's not like Season 2's marketing was all about the Tailies or other filler from that season, although some argue the entire hatch scenario was filler.

It is interesting though that all the pre-season promos made it seem like the 4 people on the chopper were bad guys and after two episodes they don't seem to be at all. Although I'm sure these people and the freighter are the way that Michael will be reintroduced into the story line.

Me and my girlfriend of 3 years broke up days before the premiere. Why? Clearly so I wouldn't be bothered on Thursday nights, including V-Day.

I'd say they are unlikely, as I can't count more than 6 (22-16) episodes in any previous season that were filler episodes.

Season 3, I'd say the filler was Jack's tats, Hurley's van discovery, Nikki and Paulo's episode, and a couple of the first 6 regarding the surgery on Ben, but not all of them. Cutting the season down to 16 seems like it should get rid of most of these, if not all of them.

Damon Lindelof is eager for some answers. An executive producer of ABC's mystery serial "Lost," he should learn this week what his show's future holds as it closes out its fourth season.

"Lost" has been back on the air just two weeks. But the strike meant a planned 16-episode shooting schedule was halted after just eight episodes were shot. Fans braced themselves for no more this season.

"But we very much want to come back and do as many episodes as possible," said Lindelof, who then listed a few issues that first need to be settled.

"How many episodes can best serve our story? And what are the production realities?" He noted that the shooting facility in Hawaii, 2,500 miles from his Los Angeles office, had been shuttered since Thanksgiving. The crew has dispersed, the huge cast has scattered.

The first new post-strike episode of "Lost" could possibly be ready for broadcast the week after episode eight appears, he said. There likely would be three or four more after that.

Could there be even more?

"I'd be surprised if the network wanted to air episodes deep into the summer," he said. But if all the pieces fell into place, "Lost" fans would be blessed: "I don't see why we couldn't deliver all eight remaining episodes."

That kind of zeal should warm viewers' hearts. Lindelof and the rest of TV's creative community seem delighted to be back.

I don't think the networks should care about having shows in the summer. If its a good show, people will either make sure they can watch it live, or DVR it. I don't think ABC has many shows left anyways that people watch, so they might as well have lost for 16 episodes so they can get some viewers back.
