Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
And Chief is right, how many episodes are we going to have to endure the Locke unsure of himself getting tricked by Ben theme. Its growing old.
I have 1 more question about last nights epsiode, if those gases would have been released it would have destroyed everyone on the island, certainly Ben would not have wanted those gases released because he would have died too. But thats what would have apparantly happened had Faraday and Red been shot. There has to be a different explanation for what those people were doing.
It also showed that Faraday and crew have been to the island before. How else would they have knowledge of where the hatch was, (because the Losties have never been there), what to type in on a Dharma run system, etc. They also had maps of the island, and I don't think you can buy those at the local gas station. But that was clearly their primary objective to do something with gases as they had gas masks etc.
It would have made sense that Ben would want the gases released if he would have been in a safe place because all the "Others" are in the temple which may be sheltered from the gases.
OH SNAP! That might be it. Maybe in the near future Ben and the Oceanic 6 make it off the island, the gases are released purging the rest of the Losties and Jack is going crazy trying to get back to the island to somehow go back in time and unwind this stuff but can't. I wouldn't be suprised if Ben somehow tricked Jack into doing it too.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

I don't get the timer on the gas being released. By entering that hatch, did it set off a timer causing the loud alarm and the timer to start counting down? I mean it wasn't coincidental that two arrived just in time to stop the countdown right?Comment

Yeah, come to think of it, what is the Smirkette's grand purpose on this show? She's basically Ben's pawn who is trying to get off the island. Something to add a little spice to the Ben vs. Jack cage match and show that Ben can be a control freak. But if Ben's character was only supposed to be on for a few episodes, and now they've made him the Erkel of Lost, why are they doing a whole episode on Smirkette? This was like a bonus episode from season 3 that was found in the edit room. Fluff I say, and with only a limited number of episodes this season, having the Kate fluff episode, a good Desmond episode, and a Smirkette fluff episode doesn't really make any sense.

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
They must have knowledge of the inner workings of the island or how would they possibly know about the Tempest station, have maps, etc. And if they work for Whidmore and he doesn't apparantly have real good knowledge of the island in 2004, then where else could they have got that data from except from the future and brought it back?
A key to this is that they showed Widmore being taped over the Redsox tape, so we know in 2004 he was doing battle with Ben's people. It made it seem like he was trying to get answers as to where the island is.Last edited by fistofrage; 03-07-2008, 05:00 PM.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
Weak episode. Worst of the seaon and the worst in the last two seasons since Hurley's "I miss my dad because we worked on a car" episode.
We really learned a lot of nothing. It was almost like this should have been a Season Three episode. Why are we still learning about Juliet's first days on the Island? Who cares that she cheated? And so what if Ben has a crush on her. Am I supposed to be afraid for Jack's life? Uh, he gets off the Island so there's no suspense.
We need more freighter and more Ben talking to John Locke. Actually, we just need more Desmond."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
i think that the "man" on the boat is a grown up walt. that would be an easy way to assimilate the time on the island being slower, the losties have been gone in their minds for a few months, then all of a sudden sayid bumps into a full grown walt? maybe? who knows with this show, atleast it keeps me entertained for an hour a week i guess...Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
Alright, back to the Smirk......I started thinking about her lame character and wondered what the purpose really is, and now I'm starting to think that it might be a real smirk and not just a stupid look on her face.
1. Ben must really own her because she's had ample opportunity to get rid of Ben. She's got a gun and Ben has been tied up for most of season 4, he would be easy enough to kill.
2. She was building a permanent shelter last episode when Sun came over to help her. She knows she's not getting rscued any time soon.
3. Why would any of Ben's threats hold up against her? If Ben dies, does some kill her sister? What is keeping Juliet bound to Ben?
So what is it? Is Juliette a victim that is key to the storyline, sinister, or just a worthless character with a stupid look on her face?Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
I was over my parents' house for dinner last night and we were talking about the show for a while and something we agreed upon is that right now there are no clearly defined roles for the characters. There really are no bad guys at the moment. There is no one I'm really pulling for and no one I despise (outside of people like Kate/Juliette because they're terrible actors and have no relevance to the main storyline), even Ben. Part of you has to believe Ben is telling the truth especially after seeing Sayid working for him in a flashforward. I guess Mr. Widmore could be considered a bad guy but does anyone really care about him or understand his relevance right now?
Locke is basically clueless/aimless right now, Sawyer is as dull as can be, the four people from the chopper are all pansies, Jack is tame and waiting around, Juliette might as well be a stick figure drawn into the show, Kate is just annoying, etc.
Desmond is still the man though. Ben is still a good character, you have to know he's got a plan as he mentioned.
Right now I'm missing the days of Sawyer being an *******, Jack and Locke really feuding and constantly being at each others throat, Mr. Eko being a huge hardass, etc. The show just seems very, very bland to me after the last three episodes. I really hope it picks up again but it doesn't seem promising w. this weeks episode focusing on Sun and Jin."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Sawyer, I think, has just finally come to peace with the Island, and that is why he is no longer being that in-your-face ******* anymore. He has found his place on the Island - people like him, people respect him, he belongs there - and I think the show really presented his progression (or regression, in many viewers' eyes) from that original Sawyer to the laid-back one when he was willing to settle down with Kate.
Ben has become my favorite character on the show this season, followed by Desmond. Those two are absolutely amazing.
I'm interested in Jin's story...but I never liked Sun at all. I know they go hand-in-hand, but Jin always seemed like he had much more to him than they ever showed, while Sun just seems rather...pointless, to me.Comment

Desmond and Ben are def saving the show right now as you mentioned, if it wasn't for them this show would be in trouble. And Sun is definitely a blah character like most of the other women on the show. I can already tell tonight's ep is going to be a snoozer for the most part unless there's some amazing cliff hanger regarding Ben/Desmond/the Freighter."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
