Here's a possible error: Desmond needs a constant to "fix" himself. But why wasn't Faraday his constant? Shouldn't he have remembered who he and Sayid were after meeting Faraday at Oxford? Or am I missing something?

Why is Desmond Faraday's constant? Faraday is in love with Desmond?Comment

Now there is the question of are they really on the island or is this just a meeting place for everyone when the go back or forward in time in their head. Is it the past, present, or future. We've seen flashbacks/flash forwards, were they just part of jumping from scene to scene or were they actually happening in their minds.
So many ways the writers can take this.Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
So have we figured out anything about the time difference on the island and time not on the island?
I'm confused, time moves faster on the island because Jack and everyone thought Sayid and Desmond were gone for quite a while when in reality they weren't.
But then Sayid was surprised to see it was Christmas Eve already.
I'm pretty much just confused overall about the time difference, can anyone clarify this any for me or do we still just not know exactly how it works?Favorite Teams:

I almost forgot about the door being opened at the end by someone that allowed the crazy guy, Desmond, and Sayid to get to the communications room. Who opened it? I was expecting Michael or Walt to be in the hallway. :-)Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
It was a mixed bag for me.
My feeble mind still hasn't been able to wrap itself around this 'time/space' stuff so I'm not sure how it fits into the whole picture.
I know when the show wraps up, last nights episode will probably be looked upon as the 'turning point' where things start to come together.
But since I can't yet understand how it all plays together the episode was kind of a wash for me.
Lost is a definite love/hate thing. I'm hooked, I can't wait to watch it every Thursday, and yet after each episode I find myself getting more frustrated. But that frustration turns to obsession as I need to know what's going on.
I just pray that after the dust settles the ending is worth the journey. I don't want it to be that all of this was in Desmond's mind or something like that.
Regarding the time/space wrip, portal the island seems to have. I want to pay extra attention to future flash-forwards to see what date and time it is. According to the current time-line it should be 2004 outside the island. But what time is it really when they get off the island?
Desmond called Penny on December 24, 2004. But how do we know that he didn't call into the past?
Some of the Penny storyline didn't add up.
I was under the impression that, according to past Desmond flash-backs, after Desmond broke up with Penny he took off to sail around the world. But in this episode when he zapped into 1996, she wanted nothing to do with him and didn't talk to him for 8 years.
Did Penny start to look for Desmond after she received the phone call? And she received that phone call in her house. But technically, just the day before, she contacted Charlie in the underwater station. Where did she make that call? Does she have a video satellite feed in her house?
This isn't adding up for me and I'd appreciate it if anyone could correct me or steer me in the right direction.Comment

It was the episode where Jack and Desmond met up (pre-crash), where they were running up the stadium steps. I think Desmond even said, "See ya in another life, Brotha" to Jack.
Also, when was the picture of Penny and Desmond taken. In the picture Penny and Desmond were happy, and Desmond had his long hair. But, in 1996, Desmond had short hair, and he and Penny were broken up.Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
I think that Dec. 24th 2004 is the present day in the show.
Let's say the "6" get rescued and return home at the end of this season. That would be about the beginning of 2005. The flash forward we saw of Jack & Kate at the end of season 3 will be current present day in the show and in our time. That's my theory.
About the time difference someone was confused about. The helicopter was only gone for a short time (maybe an hour) to those on the copter, but it was 2 days to those on the island. That really means time is moving slower on the island, not faster. They can live what seems to be 2 days on the island in what is really an hour (or so) in real time. That explains why those on the island for a long time do not age much. We know the island is not just behind time to the outside because they can use the radios to talk to each other at the same time. I'm guessing the Losties have not aged much since they crashed there. Ben has aged because he probably keeps going back to the "real" world a lot.
This has to have some affect on what's her names cancer and Locke's legs, but I'm still not sure how. I hope they explain the episode with Locke and Boone where they find the plane and he temporariliy lost the ability to walk.Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
Here is a timeline for Desmond from Lostpedia. Those guys are kinda freakish about the show, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was accurate, but I'm not promising it is.
1989 Desmond begins dating Ruth
1995 A week before his wedding to Ruth, Desmond gets drunk and is found in the street by Brother Campbell. Desmond joins the monastery.
1995 Upon being expelled from the monastery, Desmond meets Penelope Widmore
1996 Desmond asks Charles Widmore for his permission to marry his daughter Penny but is refused, meets Charlie busking on a London street and finally breaks up with Penny.
1999 Desmond completes his prison sentence and is dishonorably discharged from the military.
2001 Desmond meets Libby at a coffee shop shortly after arriving in the United States. She loans him her boat.
2001 Penelope tracks down Desmond at the stadium.
2001 Jack meets Desmond at the stadium
2001 Desmond begins the boat race in Libby's boat. ("Live Together, Die Alone")
2001 Desmond arrives on the Island and begins pushing the button with Kelvin Joe Inman.Listen to some of my covers:

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
That picture had to have been taken prior to 1996. Isn't that where he chickened out on the marriage thing with her? That was why she wasn't speaking to him anymore in 1996. He probably joined the Army after that. Then, when he got out, he went on with the goal of getting her back by sailing the boat.Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
But then I have to ask the question, wouldn't Desmond going back in time changes some events?
If Penny found Desmond at the stadium, surely their conversation would have changed if Desmond was adamant about her taking his phone call 8 years in the future.
This has to have some affect on what's her names cancer and Locke's legs, but I'm still not sure how. I hope they explain the episode with Locke and Boone where they find the plane and he temporariliy lost the ability to walk.
P.S. Maybe Locke lost his legs because he started to doubt? But then that would indicate a psychological attachment to the island. That would make things a LOT weirder (as opposed to a floating smoke monster, seeing dead people, going back and forward in time, and an invisible man in a rocking chair, Money99?)

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
IIRC Desmond ended up in a military prison in an episode at the end of season 2. The episode last night sheds some light as to why he actually deserted the military. He went AWOL to find Daniel Faraday. This show is great."You got it man. I don't watch hockey." SidVish"I thought LeBron James was just going to be another addition to help me score."
