Pared, is a new iPhone on the way? I'm getting sick of these HDD based mp3 players....nothing but problems.

How is the 16GB or even 30GB itouch? I need the space, but if I have to cut back on the amount of tunes I put on the thing, I will. Is the 30gb still $499 (which is too much imo).

You should have kept your Zune. That new software is the ****.

Nah, not dumb questions at all.

I have a crystal clear screen protector on my touch and have had it since about October. No issues at all and the screen is just as responsive as the day I bought it. Fingerprints aren't an issue once you have the protector on it... just wipe it with your shirt.

Definitely take it to Apple before you sell it though... you don't want someone else getting the classic and asking you why is it clicking... or worse, dying on them 3 days later. Remember, you're under the warranty period for the classic since it was released less than a year ago.

I don't have a protector and my screen is fine...the back metal is scratched, but that happens to all iPods.

I took mine on my trip this weekend and watched a crapload of How I Met Your Mother on my flights...it was great on the touch, and I didn't have to lug around a bigger portable DVD player. I also like the internet/wifi stuff, it's come in handy on occasion.

How is the wifi capabilities? Does it also allow you to transfer music from your PC to the iPod (granted it would be slow)?

I know. I feel like footballforever with these mp3 players, except most of mine have been issue related with the player itself or the software.

Now that they released 2.5, I see that it does address a lot of the issues I was having with the previous software from a feature standpoint. I have some thinking to do here. Do I go back to the 80GB Zune or get a 16GB Touch and live with carrying less music around.

Also, I'm searching ebay right now and brand new sealed 32GB itouch's are selling around $399 with Buy It Now. Would I still get the warranty through Apple for the 1 yr?

I use Wi-Fi all the time. Here in NYC, wi-fi is readily available at a LOT of places.... It works spectacularly. I love how, just like some PC wifi software, it remembers the name of access points you use so you don't always have to specify where to connect to. With my airport extreme & express at home my range of access is ridiculously large.

With the right setup, the wifi is pretty extraordinary for this little device.

BTW, isn't the Zune HDD based anyway? You'd be going back to same thing you're trying to avoid.

I have about 39GB's worth of music in my library, and do agree with you that I don't listen to all of it. I guess it is nice to have all your music in the palm of your hands at any given moment. LOL!

Pared, would you go the ebay route for the 32GB that I mentioned above for the same price as the 16GB?

I was where you were a week ago. I have 40GB of music so my only options are a 32 GB Touch or the Zune. Because it looked like MS wasnt going to update the software any time soon I considered selling my Zune and getting the Touch. Then the new software came out and it gave me everything I wanted. Tag editing, seperating videos by type and genre, gapless playback, games and auto playlists. Now the Zune has pretty much everything that the Classic has but with a few extras.

Now the Touch is sexier and if there was a 64 GB Touch I would consider it but imo the Zune is the best over 32GB Mp3 player on the market.

Absolutely, if it is new in box. Apple will always support their devices if you don't have a receipt for (1) One year after they are introduced.

The big question for you would be is it worth going with the 32GB just so you can have your music always with you now if you're going to just sell it in a couple of months anyway.... The money would lose wouldn't be too bad, since you're getting it at $400... I'm sure you can resell it in great condition for at least $275.

Thats the thing. I have 40 GB of music that i like. If I put an album on my Zune, I delete the songs I hate. Thats why I couldnt deal with the 16 or 32 GB Touch. I like that if I want to listen to Jay-Z or Radiohead or Mary J. Blige, I dont have to think ahead and make sure its on my device. I can always access the songs I want to hear.

I think that is a very fair assessment.

You get the touch if you want more than just an mp3 player though. The Zune has better battery life too, right Aaron?

For you G... you have to weigh whether or not leaving a HDD based mp3 player is what you want to do. I don't see my touch as an mp3 player anymore. I have my email on there, calendar, contacts, organizer, videos, weather, internet access, google maps.... I can't tell you how many times having Google Maps and directions been more useful than anything else I've had.

I would jump all over the 32gb, even though it is short 8gb's of the amount of music that I have. But that $499 is just too much. I know I have probably a good 10-15 GB's worth of music that I could trim down.

I may try going the ebay route since the warranty will still be honored. If the seller doesn't offer a receipt, I should still be fine correct, even though the ipod wasn't registered by them?

I asked this question over at ilounge about buying from ebay, and a bunch of those guys were telling me that Apple won't honor the 1 yr warranty if bought off of ebay. It makes no sense to me since you would be registering a product that was never registered with them giving you that 1 yr warranty like you say Pared.

It seems like the ipods with HDD's have a higher failure rate than most of the other branded mp3 players. While I had the 30gb and 80gb Zunes, not once did I ever hear the HDD click at all. The Classic, you sometimes hear it click when it goes from song to song, or sometimes just makes a louder clicking sound out of nowhere. I am highly considering getting out of the HDD mp3 players and go with a flash based like the touch.

The syncing would probably suck since I would have to check and uncheck the tunes I want. I might have to do what ahobert does and eliminate the sucky songs off of albums.

It looks like Circuit City has all the ipod touch's for $25 off on their website.

Trust me; I bought my device from Best Buy and I made sure that they would honor the warranty. You just obviously don't tell them you bought it from ebay!

You will be fine without a receipt but only for one year from the device was released, not one year from when you bought it off of the seller on ebay.

Think about it... if the device has only been on sale for 2 months, how can they tell you you're not under your one year warranty?

It looks like the 32gb ones now are up to about $420 plus $10-$15 shipping. I guess they were selling like hotcakes. I still have those HD DVD gift cards + 1 from returning a few things last month that I could use at Best Buy. I'm debating if I should just get this there to have a piece of mind.

I picked up the 32gb today @ Best Buy, sold the Classic on ebay last night and had about $200 in BB Gift Cards (thanks to HD DVD on some of these) so cost me about $120 out of pocket. The touch is amazing and I went through all my music and was able to trim about 15gb's or so worth of music that I didn't really listen to. It allows me to have about an extra 6.5gb's on this player now.

Only drawback that Pared warned me about was how slow the syncing is, it literally took my 2 hours to sync 4200 songs. YUCK! I think with each new generation of Flash ipods they will fix this with time.

Can anyone recommend a case for this? I wasn't too sure which one to get at Best Buy. I use to have an Agent 18 Shield for the Zune 80 and that was a great case, but would rather get a case tomorrow.
