Re: Heroes (NBC, Mondays @ 9PM) Season 2 (SPOILER WARNINGS WHILE LIVE/WEST COAST)

Still don't understand the purpose of Nikki, Micah, Monica, and that entire family. Amazing how this show continues to go down that road with them and still not give the fans any reason to feel connected to them. They serve no purpose. Nothing great has been discovered from them. They haven't done anything worthy, either. They're just a waste of 10 minutes every episode.

We need more Peter, Adam, Hiro, and Noah. It's obvious that they will carry the central storyline of the virus. When they aren't on screen we're getting a lot of nothing. Just extra rubbish that yes, builds characters (count me as one of the few that actually likes the Maya, Sylar storyline) but leaves me wondering how it benefits the entire story.

That being said, man Sylar is one freaky dude. Classic Spanish Novela storyline with Maya's brother dead on the floor while she kisses Sylar. I felt like I was watching Univision.

And even if she doesn't end up being extremely important, I'd like to see more Kristen Bell. I underrated her when people were talking about her being on the show (probably because people were only interested in how she looked. Yes, I'm looking at you!) but wow she's a great actor and I love her portrayal of Elle. It's magnificent.

I agree. I thought when Nikki was asigned to Suresh that it would be a good way of joining them up but the characters have been an utter waste this year. I guess Nikki was fairly irrelevant last year but she was still tied to Nathan and Alderman. They must be setting something up for the second half (if it exists) because the lack of relevance to some characters is my biggest complaint this year.

I think I agree with absolutely everything in this post. Sums up my feelings pretty damn well.

I liked Lost the first season, then it just got weird because they were like "Oh, we have more seasons to make"...

I know tons of people like Lost, and it's just my opinion, but I'd just hate for Heroes to try and do too much by introducing major plot twists just to have plot twists. I know I'm in the minority because I stopped liking Lost because it got more weird and not just people stranded. I can understand why they did it, just didn't grab me.
Did you watch any of Lost's season 3? Yeah it's kinda weird but the show was outstanding during the second half of season 3.

Nah, they'd lost me by then and it's pretty tough to get back into a serial show without watching all the episodes I missed...I'm sure it's not bad, just wasn't gonna rent the dvd's to catch up

Could you point me towards the "believable stuff" on this show? Is it the guy who can fly? Or the time traveler? Or the several people who can regenerate?

                Exactly!

I should have stated believable within the context of the show.

Edit: I should add that both Heroes and 24 are in the same boat. Both had incredible opening seasons that sucked you in right away. They were unique and very well written. Its hard to duplicate that success and measure up to the initial season. Its even harder for 24 as the real time format limits the story lines they can use without becoming repetitive.

Hopefully they kill off Nikki. I've been wanting to see her off the show since day one. As long as Peter, Hiro, and Noah are still on the show, I don't care who else goes.

Did I miss something in one of the episodes? Can someone explain how Sylar lost all his powers? I figured it was from the medication he was fed (similar to Peter) but since he hasn't been taking them shouldn't he be just like Peter with all his powers back?

                        I don't think there's been a true explanation.

But, Sylar has been powerless since his appearance in Season Two.

The first season was filled with wonderment and discovery as we were all along for the ride as these people discovered their powers and their place in the grand scheme of events as the Company planned them. This year, things are just dragging along.

Nothing has happened this year that has been out of the blue - it seems like they just set up the events with each episode and then the next episode comes and the events play out just as you thought they would. Even the big "reveals" this season, like the fact that Adam Monroe killed Hiro's father, come as no surprise to anyone with a clue. Maybe it's because I'm comparing it to other shows like Lost or 24 that always throw new wrenches, new directions and new complications into their plots, but this show is just kind of plodding along for me at this point. The only question for me right now is who dies.

It's entertaining, sure, but the excitement factor just isn't there for me this season. It also doesn't help that the wrap up for the whole virus storyline feels incredibly rushed over these last two episodes. We spent 10 minutes at a time watching Hiro and his girlfriend shake cherry blossoms off a tree, and now the main plotline of the story is being crammed into a sardine can in the last two or three episodes. Nice pacing.
For me, the beginning portion of the season just wasn't clicking. These 4 episodes have been really good and a saving grace for me. I'll check this out again when it hits HD-DVD and maybe my thoughts will change.

I've about given up on this show. The first season started with a bang, and started to lose steam as it approached an extremely disappointing finale. This season can be described in one word....boring.

Could the problem be too much backtracking to tell the story?
