"The Thin Red Line" was overrated, even though its cinematography was beautiful.

But "American Beauty?" One of the 10 best major-release films of the last decade, with ease. A phenomenal movie I could watch over and over again.

What kind of movie do you like if you dislike "American Beauty?"

Amazingly, this thread has proven once again that artistic statements such as books and movies are subjective endeavors and the movie has yet to be made that appeals to everyone. Who'd have thunk it.

Also, the Thin Red Line had beautiful cinematography? Maybe in the long range vista shots I'll grant you, but the battle sequences were the most poorly shot battle sequences I've ever seen in a war movie. Give me a Sony digicam and $10 for costumes and effects and I could film more realistic and exciting WWII battle sequences in my back yard....

LOL, that movie was so bad, it was a train wreck, I couldn't turn it off when I saw it on HBO. I ended up seeing it like 4 times.

Even thinking of it gives me shivers.

Heart Break Ridge. Clint Eastwoods worst movie and one of the dumbest I have ever seen. Clint's fake raspy sergeant voice was a pain to listen to.

LOL I agree that movie was bad... but it was so bad it was good!

Another one along those lines: Dude wheres my car? That movie was so awful that I saw it at least 3 times.

Sometimes really bad movies are actually better comedies to me than movies that are supposed to be comedies.

Re: What is the worst movie you've ever seen?

This is all obviously our opinions but I think it's interesting to note what makes peoples perceptions as to what a good movie is are different. Personally I really enjoy movies that make one think, don't offer clean, cookie-cutter, pat answers, have atypical hollywood storylines and endings and usually deal with subject matter outside of the norm. These sorts of movie challenge you to consider alternate, sometimes warped viewpoints while using your brain to fill in many of the blanks (especially ambiguous endings). However I've noticed a good, significant portion of movie watchers do not like such movies at all, in fact hate those types of movies. Instead they prefer more simplistic, less thought provoking and more clear cut typical Hollywood fare with clear good guys, bad guys and easy to follow storylines and endings.

On first appearance it may seem like an intelligence issue, one could assume that those who like the former type of movie, the type I enjoy, might be more intelligent or insightful. But that is not the case, I've known many people who are as intelligent or more intelligent than myself who prefer movies of the latter mold. So it's not about intelligence, instead I believe it's whether you or not you view a movie, and entertainment in general, to engage your brain into deeper and more artistic thought or view a movie simply to engage your brain less, thus giving you a respite from the rest of the world. It all comes down to how you want to enjoy yourself.

I can tell just from reading a lot of these responses into which category most people here fit.

Sadly, everything he says on screen is raspy and it's definitely not fake. I remember watching Million Dollar Baby and I felt bad for him in some ways.

BTW Mission to Mars was a great movie. I liked the premise in the ending but they used the sledgehammer of plot and hit everyone over the head with it. They could've been a lot more subtle about it.

Two animated piles that I caught on HBO (thank the deity I didn't pay for them):

                              Shark Tale
                              Madagascar

Dreamworks Animation needs to stick with "Shrek". Every other "pop culture" animated flick is just terrible. All star power and no substance. Heart and a good story go a long way, just look at Aardman Animation...crappy animation (comparitively) but great movies.
