Re: T.I. in big trouble
I don't much care for this guy but I watched an interview with Master P on CNN. He laughably blamed the media and the movie SCARFACE on molding the minds of young black kids who end up growing up with the gangsta mentality. He basically blamed a movie for what happened to T.I. and other gangsta type rappers and kids out there.
Yet....when the tables are turned and the media blames rap music for problems in society they defend it as an "art form".
Just jaw dropping stupidity right there and it shows the lack of foresight these people have.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: T.I. in big trouble
Damn near every rapper is "fake". And the ones that are "real" aren't exactly the best rappers with Jeezy and Birdman. Nobody calls out Wayne and Rick Ross for being fake when they're probably the fakest dudes since Vanilla Ice.Comment

Also, its funny how rap music gets blamed for the ills of the community but I never hear other forms of music being blamed for encouraging other forms of illegal behavior. Tons of rock songs in the 60's and 70's encourgaed drug use but I never hear about those songs being blamed for the number of addicts that came out of those decades.Comment

Also rock music did get vilified for a while, especially in the mid '80s when there were congressional hearings regarding the censorship of rock music and lyrics. Frank Zappa was very vocal against censorship of any kind and he made some interesting points about it without really having to point the finger at other forms of media.
Also when bands like AC/DC, KISS, G&R etc etc became very popular there was definitely a backlash against them.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: T.I. in big trouble
You obviously don't follow the media after a school shooting. Every single school shooting gets blamed on Manson and other metal acts. Every time someoen kills themselves, it's blamed on suicide solution by ozzy. Don't even try and play that trump card man...Comment

That's true but that's the reason why after they get arrested or something their album sales go up.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: T.I. in big trouble
Actually he has a point. Everyone points the finger at rap music but fails to blame the glamarization of gangster life by movies and TV. I know a ton of "thugs" who grew up as much on Goodfellas, Scarface and the Godfather as they did on NWA.

Re: T.I. in big trouble
Totally different situations. One, only Columbine was blamed on Manson and thats because they listened to Manson! This is a discussion about an entire community and a criminal element not one sad tragedy. Same goes for Suicide Solution by Ozzy.Comment

Not Manson anymore, now it's video games. But rap is blamed for all the city shootings.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

I grew up on Goodfellas, The Godfather, Scarface, NWA, 2Pac, etc. and I'm not out buying autmatic guns with silencers or selling drugs or killing people.

Scarface should get some blame. He is like every rapper's idol. Not really a positive guy to follow.Free The Birds!!!Comment

Re: T.I. in big trouble
I agree with you but I also think that it's hypocritical of certain rappers to say that it's all on the parents and/or other forms of media but not put any blame on themselves. But yeah, rap gets unfairly blamed for alot and it seems like every generation there's a new form of music for people to make the scapegoat. First it was jazz/swing, then the early rock and R&B, then rock again, and now rap.Comment

Re: T.I. in big trouble
Therein lies the problem. It's more complex then just blaming the rappers or rap music per se. It's actually quite a vicious circle. Correct me if i'm wrong but most rappers grew up in broken homes or in very desperate situations so even with success and fame they emulate what they perceive as "cool". Add money to the equation and you have big problems. The kids who idolize these guys see what their heroes do and say and want to be like them. Some of these kids become rappers themselves and the cycle repeats itself.
It's partly the music, the lifestyle, and the fact that kids in bad situations sometimes don't get raised right.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
