Both are luxuries. Air Travel is not a necessity, nor is Television.

Having trained air traffic controllers on the job is a public safety issue. If planes fly with poorly trained air traffic controllers in the tower, a disaster could occur that costs hundreds of lives.

If TV writers go on strike, no one is going to die unless missing a few episodes of "Lost" starves them of oxygen.

I never said Air Traffic Controllers weren't a necessary. I said air travel wasn't. Without air travel, what's the point of Air Traffic Controllers?

The simple solution is to let them all strike and then let a select handful of OS members write for these TV Shows.

Tell that to someone who works for a national or multi-national company. So, you expect someone working in America for a multi-national company to take a ship to Europe to monitor the company's operations or attend a large conference there?

I think the threat of a strike is the reason we aren't seeing much news of shows getting the axe this season. I think there are just as many shows out there this year as there have been in the past that got the axe after a few airings. This year, the cuts aren't happening as much. I think it is a precaution in case there is a strike, they still have something to put on. I'm kinda surprised we aren't seeing a few weeks of reruns here just to stretch things out a little.

what's the difference between showing low rated uncancelled shows and reruns? I doubt people will flock to a show like caveman just because the episodes are newer than the reruns of house or whatever else.

I don't watch reruns of shows in primetime, so I'd more than likely watch new episodes of something. If one of the shows I watch tonight was showing a repeat, that would turn into movie or video game time for me. Not everyone is like me obviously.

If it happens I'll just have to go into other shows on DVD like Battlestar Gallactica. I'll rent HBO shows like OZ and Carnivale. And there is still the Wire and other HBO/Showtime shows to feed my tv urges.

With less than 48 hours to strike a deal, it doesn't seem like anyone is any closer to resolving the issues.

Looks like the strike will happen.

They can write Shakespeare. Why not wrestling?
