I understand that Leno and Conan were forced to come back by NBC. But I won't be watching them for a long time. Well Leno shouldn't even be on TV. Conan is ok.

It'll be interesting to see how Leno and Conan do without writers. I'm guessing their shows will actually "gasp" be real talk shows. Dave Letterman has a HUGE opportunity to win back fans that he may or may not have lost over the years since he know has a huge advantage.

I hope he kicks Leno's arse in the ratings.

I don't see how he can really win "new" fans with the same writers and gimmicks he's always done. Throwing pencils and reading a top 10 list will be just as boring and lame during a writer's strike as it always is. It's not like the absence of quality tv will make him look incredible again.

I saw Vince Young last night on Leno. Maybe the late night shows will turn to athletes more? Maybe just little chit chat about the seasons and up coming playoffs?

obviously. I just meant that if you really watch the colbert report, he sticks to the teleprompter way too much, even messing his delivery up at times. It's not like he's out there using it as a guide for his lines. Guys like Conan and Stewart are more natural at their delivery.

Well i've always liked Letterman. Sure, he doesn't play nicey nice with his guests but his caustic wit and sarcasm is what has consistently entertained me throughout the years. I will freely admit he was better at NBC but that was because he was younger, on a later timeslot so that he could be wilder and had an even meaner streak then he does today.

I also think that Letterman is the best interviewer out of all the late night hosts. Hell, I think he's good enough to actually do in depth news interviews if he ever wanted to. Just look at his awesome interview with O'Reilly last year I believe.

yeah, athletes, musicians, nobody actors on shows from the sci fi channel, stuff like that.

Well he's one of the writers for his show.

I think it's the other way around. Personal preferance though. I really hope this writers strike ends and none of our favorite shows are over for good.

I hope that "Conan Without Writers" just means "Conan Writes The Show", because that would be freakin cool.

And yeah, Leno without writers will be even more unbearable (and Carson Daly... ugh, jeez, I struggle for words)...

Colbert and Stewart are both writer-heavy, though I think Stewart can pull off an all-interview show a little bit better just because he can be natural instead of playing a character the whole time like Colbert. Jon just riffing on some daily stories and then having the normal interview segment would be pretty funny too, I'm sure. Colbert is definitely at a disadvantage comparatively just because of the show's structure. It'll be interesting to see how they do.

Narf. I misread your post and thought there was a "don't" in there. I thought you were wacko or something. My fault.

I'm a Letterman fan but the show's incredibly lame sometimes-I don't know what they're thinking with the pencil thing.

He's not nearly as edgy as he used to be-even before his heart operation.
