Man I have to say, I've liked Family Guy more than the Simpsons when it first aired. I haven't seen a laugh out loud moment from the Simpsons in a really long time. Also, I think Family Guy has gotten even funnier since being resurrected. Like someone said, it's mainly because it takes shots at so many people and groups. I even like American Dad more than the Simpsons. That show ran it's course years ago.

It's crazy though, I can remember watching the shorts on the Tracy Ullman show. I remember when the series first aired, I was in the 5th grade! I'll be 29 next week.

I thought Family Guy was funny when it first came out, but I haven't felt that way in a while and thought it went downhill pretty fast. Of course, I stopped watching in the middle of last season so I can't speak past that.

The Simpsons was good for such a long time, but it also went downhill. Right now I'd vote Simpsons simply because of it's staying power.

I just think it has a different comedic slant/focus, and appeals to a slightly different audience.

Its like saying who's better between Richard Pryor or George Carlin. They're both iconic comedians, but just different stylistically.

Right now it's funnier than Simpsons is currently, but it doesn't come close to Simpsons in the long term. The first 2 or 3 seasons of Family Guy were funny while the first 10+ seasons of the Simspons were great.

The Simpsons in its hey day was far better than Family Guy. I think it also stayed funnier for a much longer time than Family Guy did. I don't find either show to be particularly funny anymore. However, I think the best of the Simpsons easily trumps anything Family Guy has done.

Family Guy in the last couple years have gotten progressively dumber. The Simpsons hasn't been nearly as funny as it was in its prime years but this season the show has really made a comeback with some very good episodes.

FG will never touch the legendary status of The Simpsons. There's just enough material for that show to mine.

Took the words outta my mouth. Family Guy is starting to fall off... in season 6. The Simpsons had AT LEAST 12 solid seasons. Call me when Family Guy hits 500 episodes.

Also if you watch the Simpsons episodes that are pre-Family Guy, you will see quite a bit of ideas that Family Guy used later.

But the new Family Guy sucks now too.

Classic Simpsons takes out classic Family Guy IMO. But I'm a Simpsons guy so who knows.

Something I forgot to mention, FG is very much a show stuck in the here and now. A lot of the reference we get because they're mostly stuff that has occurred in the recent past but people 20+ years from now are going to be totally clueless about most of them.

The Simpsons has featured a lot of pop culture references over the years but it's not nearly so blatant and is funny even when you don't know the source material they're referring to. The stories in the Simpsons are quite timeless as well and will be funny no matter how far into the future one looks at it.

I've always thought "The Family Guy" is funnier than "The Simpsons."

It's one of the few TV comedies that makes me laugh.

Again, I have to agree with you. I stopped watching after about ten. I figured it'd be a nice short clip...but it just kept going, and going, and going.
