Agreed on the second part. As for the first I don't even pay social security taxes. On the flip side I don't get any (if it's even there) when I retire.

documented fact that the eath undergoes cooling and heating cycles . silly and arrogant to think "man" can control the climate.
You're missing the part where I repeatedly said even if we're not the cause, it's still a problem for us.

Also how is it "arrogant" to think that doing harmful things (like polluting the air) can actually cause harm? You're suggesting humans aren't capable of catastrophic environmental problems or damage the planet?

Laugh at this if you want, but it's an issue right now in most of the Southeast and other parts of the country. This will be one of the biggest and most overlooked issues.

            WATER

We have to many people in this country and not enough Water and natural resources to support them all. Look at all the cities in the Southeast that are screwed. Look at al the farms that dried up this summer and the farms that lost money due to that. Even worse, we're not out of the dangerzone yet.

In the Years to Come We'll face:
            Health Care.
            Retirement & Social Security.
            Medical Costs.
Our Government being in Everyone else's business.
The insaine rising cost of going to College (and it doesn't garuntee you a damn thing).
Overcrowding (imigrating issues, larger familes poping up again like the 50s and 60s).
            Society's Morales Declining even further.
            Wild Animals going Extinct.
Crazy Oil Prices until we find alternatives.
Increased Housing Costs without Minimum Wage or Cost of living increases to match rising costs...
A bigger Divide between the Poor and The Rich.

Another thing that's going to be a challenge is that record numbers of baby-boomers are going to retire soon. Very few of them have any actual retirement savings (and a lot of them are in debt).

10-20 years or so from now, they'll be old and need a lot of medical care. There is going to be a massive shortage of doctors, nurses, health-care providers, etc. We're nowhere near equipped to handle the numbers of the baby-boomers as they advance in age.

I second this one, great point. Can't believe I forgot to list it. Not just drought issues either (that runs in cycles) but fresh water for human consumption is drying up. We're very wasteful with the most important resource we have because we take it for granted.

Re: what is the biggest challenge our generation will face...

Sorry to bring up an old argument from yesterday but skerik or anyone else care to explain some phenomena here. Now, granted I think maybe some of the "oh no Global Warming" stuff is politically driven but the same can be said for big oil funding climate/global warming reports and such. So no one is innocent in this.

Anyways I'll report some stuff that has happened here locally, pose a couple questions then lay out a newish theory that would do the exact opposite of global warming but it's caused from the volatility of climate change.

                    1. In the Toronto area we've just had the warmest October on record. I'd say half the month was T-Shirt/shorts weather and the other third was T-Shirt/long pants. It's only been NOW that we've gotten consistently cold weather. I remember Octobers as a kid where it was a lot colder then what we experienced. Also 4 of the last 5 winters were warmer then normal although we always seem to pay for it with a particularly bad winter in some aspect.

                    2. If this is just climate change as opposed to global warming then why are all these records being broken all at one time more or less? usually with a gradual warming trend you don't see wild spikes in record breaking temps and what have you. Also look at what's going on by the Alabama, Georgia, and Tennesee borders. There's been drought for 5 or so years with nary an inch of real precipitation. In fact, it's so bad that water is being shipped in to some rural areas! Oh, and a second question, If there is no overall global warming can you name any areas of the Earth where the temperature has actually DROPPED?

                    3. Now here's the whole offshoot to the climate change stuff. I think we can all agree that weather has been acting a little "weird" over the last 10 years at least. One of the newer theories is that with the overall warming of the planet the jetstream is slowing down. In fact just last summer or the summer before that the jetstream STOPPED for a few days. If this were to happen over an extended period we could see a sudden cold snap all over the planet. It would be the literal "day after tomorrow". (BTW said movie isn't THAT fictional as it's based on a book that postulates the theory)

Again, i'm not looking to start any problems but I didn't want to let what I said yesterday just sit without any defense of any kind.

I'm not that concerned with fresh water supply. I'm fairly confident that if push came to shove (our survival was dependent on it) we would figure out the technology to convert salt water into usable fresh water.

It's interesting to not that just about every single problem, including this one, all stem from the same thing: over-population. That's probably the biggest problem we'll have to face. Imagine if something like cancer is actually cured? That will result in the population being even more out of control.

It's always been dry in the south in the late summer and winters. And then it always rains in the spring.

Well it depends on the context. Financially it would be that the mess that will soon become Social Security will be our problem. We'll be left holding the sack and getting screwed while we pay increased amounts to support our parents/grandparents generation as they leach off of the system. This thing should have been privatized decades ago, but lets not go that route.

Environmentally it will be global warming or the depletion of other natural resources.
