    Re: Valkyrie: Summer 2008

    Bump.

The Hitler Channel ran a 2-hour show last night dedicated to the entire July 20 plot, including everything from the early planning stages through the aftermath where the plotters went from traitors to national heroes as public perception of the Nazi regime changed in Germany. The show was thrilling and the details of the plot are really amazing, so I have no doubt that this movie will be great if they stick to the story and tell it like it happened. The end of the show featured interviews with Singer, Cruise and some other cast and crew members, talking about what the story means to them, what an amazing story it is, and how they felt filming the movie's climactic scenes on location in Germany at places like the Bendlerblock.

Definitely seeing this. It's an incredible story and I hope they do it justice.

It's right up my alley, but it's so weird to see Cruise not even attempt to do some sort of German accent. Mentally I know Tom Cruise isn't German, and he does nothing in the trailer to change my thoughts...Just kinda took me out of the movie illusion, you know?

The rationality is that there's no point in using accents if everyone is German. If your movie is about a German in the US, yeah they better have an accent since it's part of their character. In this case, the accents don't make the movie authentic since they wouldn't be speaking English anyway. Of course, there will probably be lots of characters with German accents in the movie and this logic fails.

Just saw the trailer for the first time today on t.v., wow.

            Disappointed that it's PG-13.

Tom Cruise as a German Soldier? Ya, sure, next thing you'll tell me is that M. Night Shamalamadingdong is gonna do some movie where the plant life is taking over the Earth or something.

                  Movie looks...pretty bad.

And yes, I'm blaming it all on Cruise.

                    Valkyrie (Movie)

Ok guys, maybe it's just me - but who is going to see this? I for one am not and think it looks like a decent story with the most poorly cast movie in a long time. First off, I have seen the extended trailer on HDNET Trailer show and could not help but wonder why in the world (other than the obvious that Cruise runs UA) that he would be a lead in this movie. I mean, this is a movie with the core players are all German - So at least Cruise could attempt a German accent. Funnier still is that many of the other actors in the film are not doing one either. Bill Nighy is a great actor, but is doing his German portryal in what sounds like a British accent.

I could go on, but you get the idea. Just seems like these things sort of ruin the movie. Sort of like Rachel Weisz acts in a movie and does a American accent. Something just does not sound right.

                    End.Rant.
                    Truly Blessed -

While the subject matter of the movie looks as if it would be something I would enjoy I will not see it simply because Cruise is in it. Sorry, just can't stomach the guy.

I understand the guy has started to come across as a little looney, and usually plays the exact same character, but I dont think hes a bad actor at all. In fact for what he does I think hes a good actor. I dont see why all the hate on his acting abillity.

Movie doesn't look that bad though i'm sure it's been Hollywoodized big time. I'd normally be all over this kind of movie since it's historical and deals with some of my favorite subject matter but Tom Cruise has me lukewarm at best on it.

I'm pretty interested. I haven't seen too many Tom Cruise movies so I don't have the same impression of him as some of you guys do. I actually respect his work.

It's not that Cruise is a bad actor, at least in my opinion he isn't, it's just that he is badly miscast in this role. Also, who in the world decided on this release date? Did a bunch of executives sit around and think - what could we release on Christmas Day...hmm... as the room grows quiet...suddenly one of the executives shouts out "Nazis!".

After a few seconds of general bewilderment all the suits look toward the man at the end of the table...he clasps his hands together, leans back and says "Yes, very good Anderson. Very good indeed. I know when I think of a great Christmas family movie to see I think of Nazi's. And Hitler. And how Nazi's could kill Hitler. And crap blowing up. Christmas day it is!!"

Stupid. Just Hollywood idiocy at it's finest.
