    Top 10 Albums of 2007

Simple. List your top 10 albums of the past year.

Honestly, my top 7 could almost go in any order, that's how close they were. I loved them all. All seven I could list to every song, first to last.

    1. The Dear Hunter - "Act II: The Meaning Of, And All Things Regarding Ms. Leading"
    2. Fall Out Boy - "Infinity On High"
    3. Mayday Parade - "A Lesson In Romantics"
    4. Coheed & Cambria - "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow"
    5. The Spill Canvas - "No Really, I'm Fine"
    6. Say Anything - "In Defense Of The Genre"
    7. Paramore - "Riot!"
    8. The Fall of Troy - "Manipulator"
    9. The Receiving End of Sirens - "The Earth Sings In Mi Fa Mi"
    10. The Used - "Lies For The Liar"

Honorable Mentions: Mae - "Singularity"; Anberlin - "Cities"

I've never heard of any of those bands.

Re: Top 10 Albums of 2007

Didn't really buy too many albums this year so the quantity and range of things I'm selecting from isn't too broad. I've got a top five, however:

Jimmy Eat World "Chase This Light"
      Yellowcard "Paper Walls"
Motion City Soundtrack "Even If It Kills Me"
      Rush "Snakes and Arrows"
Straylight Run "The Needles The Space"

I listened to singles I liked from a bunch of different artists who put out new albums this year (namely: The White Stripes, Wilco, Saliva, Strata, Ozzy, Paramore, Kanye West, Foo Fighters, Finger Eleven, Fall Out Boy), but obviously I can't list an album as a personal favorite of the year without having listened to the entire album.

Two other albums I have from this year, I'm not putting on a best-of-2007 list (Good Charlotte "Good Morning Revival" and Linkin Park "Minutes To Midnight"). I liked the former somewhat, but did not like the latter really at all.

OT: It came out November of last year, but Brand New's "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" was really good as well, IMO. I didn't get it til the middle of this year, so for me I'd consider it as an top 10 album of 2007 though it's technically not a 2007 album.

Ugh, that word enrages me. But I know you mean no harm. Just uninformed.

And Chaos, depending on what you do listen to, I'd recommend The Spill Canvas and Mayday Parade atleast. Assuming you listen to more mainstream sound, they might be the closest without actually being that.

For better or worse, man, the only people who don't like the term "emo" are those who listen regularly to -- you guessed it -- emo.

That's the beauty of music, though: It's all subjective.

Problem is, no one knows what the true term of emo is. If you asked where it got started, no one would have a clue it came from a band in DC back in the mid 80s, when it was known as emocore (emotional hardcore).

It frustrates me because it basically gets tossed around for every non mainstream band who's close to the pop/punk/rock genre.

Last night watching VH1, they actually said "epic emo proportions", talking about an All American Rejects video. I wanted to jump through the TV.

I'm certainly not ashamed to listen to what I do, so that's not why I hate it being defined as 'emo'. I hate it because the phrase is being tossed around like a cheap hooker at a bar. People use it as an insult, when it truly defines a genre of music, not a fashion.

Btw, this wasn't all directed at you. Just a general feeling when people mention emo.

Yeah. This year was certainly better than last year. I went through that thread, I could barely list 5 albums.

Hopefully 2008 will be even better than this year.

                              8 Diagrams (Wu-Tang Clan)
                              American Gangster (Jay-Z)
The Bar Exam (Royce Da 5’9”)
                              Because Of You (Ne-Yo)
                              Ear Drum (Talib Kweli)
                              Finding Forever (Common)
                              Graduation (Kanye West)
                              Luvanmusiq (Musiq)
                              Minutes To Midnight (Linkin Park)
                              Shock Value (Timbaland)

There's alot of fourth quarter albums that I haven't really listened to yet that could make the list if I actually listened to them.

Beanie Sigels' The Solution, Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, Ghostface Killah's The Big Doe Rehab, Chris Brown's Exclusive and Freeway's Free At Last.

Last year was much better for Hip-Hop/R&B music with the Doctor's Advocate (The Game), Hip Hop Is Dead (Nas), Konvicted (Akon), The Format (AZ), The Big Bang (Busta Rhymes), Killa Season (Cam'ron), The Re-Up (Shady Records), Fishscale (Ghostface Killah), St. Elsewhere (Gnarles Barkley), Kingdom Come (Jay-Z), FutureSex/LoveSounds (Justin Timberlake), The Evolution Of Robin Thicke (Robin Thicke), Press Play (Diddy), Rotten Apple (Lloyd Banks), Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor (Lupe Fiasco), In My Own Words (Ne-Yo), Second Round's On Me (Obie Trice), In My Mind (Pharrell), etc.

... I don't even think it's close. '06 Timberlake, Lupe, Nas, Game and Ne-Yo are in my rotation more than anything in 07 sans Kanye.
