Re: Top 10 Albums of 2007

For the record, some of us know all too much about where emo came from, lol.

    Rush's new album
    Dream Theater's new album
    Symphony X's new album
    Amon Amarth's new album
    Colors by BTBAM
    Year Zero by NIN
    Fiction by Dark Tranquility
    The new Killswitch...
Shadows Fall was solid as usual
    and that's all I got.

Why are you chasing this down? Music is too subjective for that.
            "I think this album's good"
            "No, he sucks"

Come on...just put up what you like and let it go.

Ignorant statement? I think most people who truly appreciate music would agree that today's music isn't exactly good. I've never heard of any of those albums, excluding Talib, so I can't comment on them. However, being that I've never heard of them, it leads me to believe that they are good. Unfortunately that is what mainstream music has turned the world into. The best music has to be searched for on one's own, and that is unfortunate.

And how exactly would I back my own statement up? Shall I provide a neverending list of new albums that suck horribly? Really, there is no way for me to back up my statement, as opposed to backing up the arguments against it.

My point was simply that I never hear anything good when I turn on the radio, or talk to friends who listen to more current music. I guess I was making a comment on the mainstream rather than the opposite.

Yes it's very ignorant to make a blanket statement about how there haven't been good albums in the past three years. There is plenty of good music, it's just not getting played on the radio.

And how exactly would I back my own statement up? Shall I provide a neverending list of new albums that suck horribly? Really, there is no way for me to back up my statement, as opposed to backing up the arguments against it.
You can back it up by explaining what you're talking about. What I don't understand is how you can say that I "called you out" by answering your question.

It's ignorant, yet in this post you agreed with me. I apparently didn't make my point clear that I was referring to more well-known music through the media/radio/TV, etc...

I'm talking about the fact that every song I hear when I turn on the radio is basically the same as when I turned it on last year, and the year before that, and the year before that.

I think you are focusing too much on the words "calling out." But when you simply write "yes" there is a sort of smug impression that I got from it, and that made it seem like you are calling BS on my point as if there is no merit to it, and a simple yes answer refutes it. Get over it, it's not a personal thing.

Ten Ton Brick, Aftermath, and Thank You For Listening are from the new album.

No crappy pop punk or emo stuff on my list. :P

No crappy pop or r&b either. Not that I think R&B is crap, I love it... But if you don't write the songs you sing, don't bother expecting to be included in a list by me.

You should've said that then rather than trying to suggest that there hasn't been any good albums released in the past three years.

Well there was no merit to your original point and next time if you want to say that someone is calling you out you should know what that means first. I didn't make anything personal so don't worry about it.

Let's see....in no particular order...these are probably the top ten albums I've listened to this year, so I guess that would make them the "best" in my eyes:

Motion City Soundtrack - "Even If It Kills Me"
                            Yellowcard - "Paper Walls"
Jimmy Eat World - "Chase This Light"
Minus The Bear - "Planet of Ice"
Coheed and Cambria - "....No World For Tomorrow"
Just Surrender - "We're in Like Sin"
Foo Fighters - "Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace"
                            Radiohead - "In Rainbows"
Fall Out Boy - "Infinity on High"
                            The Academy Is - "Santi"

Honorable mention for me would go to Hurt - Vol. II, which was posted above.

Is there seriously even 10 good ALBUMS that have even come out the last three years?
                              NO, it's all crap.

                                Kanye West - "Graduation"
                                Common - "Finding Forever"
                                Jay-Z - "American Gangster"
Jimmy Eat World - "Chase This Light"
Fabolous - "From Nothin' To Somethin'"
                                Freeway - "Free At Last"
                                UGK - "Underground Kingz"

That's all I can think of right now.

If comedy albums count, Patton Oswalt "Werewolves and Lollipops" would be on there.
