Two "Hobbit" films are scheduled to be shot simultaneously, similar to how the three "Lord of the Rings" films were made. Production is set to begin in 2009 with a released planned for 2010, with the sequel scheduled for a 2011 release.

From what I remembered reading a few months ago, one of the Hobbit movies is supposed to incorporate the Silmarillion some how.
I don't remember if the other Hobbit movie is Silmarillion or if it'll just be a part of the second one.
I think we can assume that one of the Hobbits movies will be "There and Back Again" with Bilbo Baggins.

Sounds cool...though I'll admit (and probably get killed) that I just watched the movies once and don't think I've read all the books of LOTR. I'm just not a fan of J.R.R Tolkien for some reason...blasphemy, I know, but just not into that so much. I know people who have seen the movies a billion times, can quote, play LOTR trivial pursuit, etc...just not for me.

Read the books when I was a kid, and thought the movies were great, so I'm happy.

I can agree with most.
LOTR was great but I've watched each movie twice and I still feel that was unnecessary.
I own the trilogy but likely will never watch them unless someone I knew wanted to watch them with me. And they'd have to pull a good sale job to have me sit through 3 hours of something I've already seen.

Only movies besides the Matrix that I will watch at least once a year since they were released on dvd.
I don't know if I like the sound of that. If it's just one movie for the Silmarillion then it'd be too short. I think a good way to show the Silmarillion would be a nice season long mini-series with each episode at about 2-3 hours.
