I doubt it, I downloaded up to episode 7 awhile ago and that's probably what other people have.

Yeah I just finished episode 7 last night. I would say the season has been steady so far but its really picking up.

I kinda agree and after watching the first 7 episodes...I really have no idea where things are gonna go or how they are gonna end. They have a lot of ground to cover in 3 episodes.

They have alot of work to do. I'm kinda pissed that i watched the leaked eps because the next three weeks are like blah...

THis season feels a little too far fetched. From the fake homeless murders to the Omar escaping the window jump. It also feels like the end of the season will be rushed. If there was one more season after this then everything would feel right.

There hasn't been a post in a week, and I figure I'd drop some thoughts on episodes 5-7 because I haven't hated on anything in a hot minute.

This season is turning into weak sauce for a few reasons.

1. The street story. This is what The Wire has been about. Even the dock and school stories worked in a way to augment the street story. The dock story explained the people above the street and the school showed the origin of the criminals. The police interconnections in seasons 1-4 are obvious. But this year, it's all messed up. I attribute this to 3 things:

A) This season is rushed. With the irrelevance of the police and politics stories to the street (yes, they're related by a thread but barely), if anything this season should be longer than the others. Instead, it's shorter. Episodes 1-4 (and 5 for the most part) walked the line fine. They set up the story that we care about while keeping it real with the police. Since then, it's been a mess. Episodes 6 and 7 have maybe had 5 minutes of Marlo and company, and then maybe 15 minutes of Omar. Other than that it's been set up for the story that's supposed to be setting up Marlo's story. Seriously WTF?

B) They sold out for season 4 and the beginning of season 5. Aside from Michael, they've literally killed off every developed character for season 5. Bodie and Joe were the most compelling and they're dead, Randy, Cutty, Poot, Wee Bay, Avon, and Slim are MIA, and even Michael is a rarity. Going back to season 3, Marlo's crew did not have character depth. Marlo was a faceless bad guy, Chris had a decent part, Snoop was in about 4 scenes, and the most developed character of the group was killed in his first 5 minutes of Season 4 (Fruit). In season 4, Marlo is still a shallow character who's pretty much just a sociopath, and Snoop, Chris, and Monk are his soldiers who just kill everyone. But instead of expanding on season 4, Chris, Snoop, Monk, Odogg, Spider, Michael, and Kernard have just reverted back to season 3 form of being bit part characters who might show up for a few minutes every other episode. I've been most disappointed by this. They killed off most of the established characters and let the others just fall by the wayside.

C) Since episode 4, they seem to just be ignoring it. It's been 3 episodes since Joe's been killed and it's been mentioned what, twice? Marlo, arguably the main character of season 4, has full control over the Baltimore drug trade and he's barely even been seen since. You can't give us the crazyness of a man who kills people over rumors, a 5 foot tall butch lesbian murderer, the one liners of Monk, the goofyness of Odogg, and the sad story of Michael and just take it away to show McNulty running around solving fake murders. Really, raise your hand if you enjoy the newspaper story more than Marlo's story. I thought so.

2. The lack of realism. This is obvious. Omar has never been a realistic character, but this is taking it to another level. The homeless killings are ridiculous, and it's turning into the Shield, Prison Break, or 24 where you more just watch to see what exactly they're going to throw at you more than anticipating a well written story. What's next, Zombie Stringer?

3. The cameos. Yes, on one hand, it's nice to see them bring back Avon, Sergei, Niko and the dock boys, the Greek, Johny 50, Savino, Cutty, and a few others. On the other hand, they've done absolutely nothing with these characters. The dock boys (including Johny 50) cameo was solid; it made the point in a relevant way without hindering the story. The other cameos were not.

Maybe they come back for more, but Avon, the Greek, and Sergei played a huge part in the story of the first 4 episodes, and appear to cease to exist after that. Maybe they just got my hopes up with the great job they did in bringing back Wee Bay in Season 4, but they haven't gone anywhere with these characters. Why didn't they bring Avon back to testify against Davis? And most importantly, what was the point of bringing back Savino? First, if you bring back a character who hasn't been seen (or mentioned) in roughly 48 episodes and 6 real time years and have him look completely different, give us his name the first time we see him, not right before killing him.

I mean, it's still a solid show, but this is the weakest season, and unless something changes, it's not even close. It had so much potential after episode 4, but they've gone in the complete wrong direction since.

I don't see the greeks being important enough to play a larger role. I think their role is fine. They showed us how Marlo pursued them and basically got their connect by killing Prop Joe.

McNulty's homeless murder thing has gotten so out of hand that even he wants out. I do like the newspaper editor basically calling his writer a fraud.

I have the same feeling though Solider, that the last couple of episodes are gonna feel extremely rushed with storylines being left open.

BTW, Clay Davis on the stand last episode was as good as gets in charachterizing a sleezy politician. When he stood up and reached in his pockets I had to applaud.

Its not about Omar being seen...its about him being seen by Marlo's people and Marlo's people being capable of doing something. In the past few episodes and in episode 7 he's been "seen" a ton. Its just that he has the drop on most of the people he approach. Also Omar's rep helps him a ton too. If you were a corner boy, would you go at Omar if you saw him, even if he was hobbled? I know i wouldnt.

I agree about everything else though. Clay is an amazing politicitan and the Greeks role is perfect.
