Just got done. I was hoping for more. Episode 9 was the best of the season. It was a decent season but it really didn't add much to the first four. I'm kind of schocked it's over now...I just wish it could have been as good as the previous four seasons.

Re: The Wire-Season 5
I know the issue came up in the first season as well...It was just a question I had that somewhat pertained to the finale, but also to the series overall...I just wanted to be safe and put spoiler tags around it for whoever hasn't seen the finale.Comment

"The game stays the same."
Which is a true statement in real situations. That was the only way that they could've really ended the series given that you can walk around west bmore right and think that you are in the wire.
SpoilerOh and I gotta admit I liked how cheese got done. Especaily how he was twitching as they all walked away. I also loved seeing Wee-Bay and Chris up in the spot together.Last edited by N51_rob; 03-09-2008, 10:33 PM.Moderator

You are right but that goes back to one of the first things they said with this series.

I liked the Cheese part too, Slim Charles was a great character.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: The Wire-Season 5
Yeah.
SpoilerIn agreement with a lot of the expressed sentiments. It was a solid show, but overall as a season this one was lacking for various reasons.
In regards to out with the old, in with the new, I was surprised to see Michael as the new Omar. I was thinking it would be Kenard. I was hoping either Mike and Dukie, or Mike and Randy would be the new young kings. Dukie ending up a drug addict was heartbreaking.
Like someone said though, the first hour was the best part of the show. When McNultycame in the office where Rawls and Daniels were waiting for him, I knew that feeling lol. You know you're in trouble, have no defense and you're just hoping they don't come down on you too hard.
I like how the writing was consistent to the character, particularly in regards to Kima. In season one when she was laid up in the hospital after being shot, Bunk tried to get her to finger Wee-bay as the second shooter but she wouldn't. Not because she didn't know what a killer the dude was, but because she honestly couldn't make out the second guy and had too much integrity to lie about it. Bunk was really working her, trying to convince her that things would play out easier if she gave him up. Her words to Bunk were, "Sometimes things gotta play hard." When Bunk told McNulty about it MvNulty exclaimed that Kima was "real police." Likewise when she told him she ratted him out about his lies, he still respected her for being who she was. Things definitely played out hard for him and Freemon. At least Lester got to go home with Shardene.
All in all good show. Not the final season I would have liked, but I'll take it. I would have liked to have seen some things play out differently, would have like to see Rawls's skeletons expounded upon, but eh, theres only so much you can do with all that backstory in 10 episodes.PS: You guys are great.

Re: The Wire-Season 5
Question about Mike. I know he's going the route of Omar, but is he really going the route of Omar all the way. I don't think he is but my boy's are saying that his history set him up to go down that path and the fact that he'll be living in the shadows with his boy(s) that he's robbing with is only going to make it worse. What do you guys think?Comment

The lines "I'm thinking some of that money should be mine" and "That's just a knee" sounded so much like Omar that I could've been looking away from the screen, heard those and thought he had come back.Comment

Re: The Wire-Season 5
Agreed. It was weird seeing a series as great as this one end with so little of the recognition and fanfare it deserves. While I hate the racial overtones that seem to be the one thing keeping The Wire from receiving it's due, this review of Season 4 by Stephen King always makes me feel good that there were many people that "got it":
As finales go, this was a very nice way to end it. No overhyped-but-ultimately-disappointing Sopranos, Seinfeld, Friends, etc. finale. It'll be missed - going to have to change my sig at some pointHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: The Wire-Season 5
Yeah definitely Omar's lines, didn't think they would make him a full fledged Omar. Got to say seeing Weebay and Chris in the yard was the highlight for me. The two most dangerous men in B-more hanging together.Comment
