Re: The Wire-Season 5
Bunk: True, True, False.
Rook Cop: So this **** actually works, huh?
Vet Cop: Hell yeah! Americans are stupid people in large. We pretty much believe whatever we're told. (

I loved the first episode. I actually think it's my most favorite opening episode in any drama show that I have watched. It told you a lot of info right from the start, with Bunk's own "Uknoufkdupright?" routine, leading into my most favorite quote of the night which basically one-ups The Sopranos' Season 6 opening scene. "No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public."
Basically with this new journalistic POV, it adds for a new plot line. We're probably going learn how newspapers play in the role of exposing political corruption/"Cop" corruption/etc. We already have seen how the harbors play into the drug "game", the school that's responsible for so many children finding themselves in this "game", the attention crazed Politicians as always promising more than they can deliver, and I could basically go onwards how much this show kicks *** and shows how every part of the town/community shapes this crime-ridden city.
Anyone got the feeling that Herc is on a path to being locked up or even killed? I don't know what to say - I guess I love to foreshadow, but his whole attitude towards leaving the police force b/c of some **** that he thinks is in the right for, I think he will end up doing some dumb things that won't bode well for his character. Him working for that high-famed lawyer either will make him start doing something either illegal or questionable. Like get inside info from his cop buddies so his lawyer can have an advantage in court and consequently leading to large bonuses for Herc on the low. His greed will shadow him, and if there is something money can't buy, it's rationality. I could definitely see him do that, especially knowing what kind of a cop he was, it's hard to root for the guy. If he does end up doing stupid **** that will come back to bite him in the ***, it won't be the first.
To the OP that said Chis and Marlo are starting to be likeable, yet Dookie the opposite, I personally don't understand where you're coming from, but I think Dookie will end up better than he ever was, and best of all he's not going to do anything unadvised, just look out for his boy's little brother. He's smart enough to see a good thing when it's presented. Many believe he's the "Stringer Bell" in this partnership .
Very promising first episode, but I heard the second episode is even better!
