Re: The Wire-Season 5
It was the state's attorney and Mr. Mayor's faults. The mayor wouldn't let the feds handle it, and the state's attorney turned down the higher charges that Sydnor and Lester said they had. I really hate the mayor.Comment

Re: The Wire-Season 5
Unlike a lot of people, I really have enjoyed this season. The only downside is only having 10 episodes to try and tie up all these stories (obviously they can't tie up everything). One of the strengths of the show is to build very slowly to a climax, which means lots of small scenes and character development that we're not really getting with this season. That's the only downside of this season in my view.
Spoiler
I love the newsroom scenes just because you really see the interplay between the different aspects of the city played out in that one aspect (cops, politicians, schools, etc. are all covered, then there is politics within the newsroom itself)... plus, Gus is a great addition to the show, so I enjoy his scenes. As far as the homeless murders go, it's clearly something that has gone too far (which is why many people think it's ridiculous), but the best part about that plotline is that the characters involved see that it's gone too far. McNutty and Lester are just holding on at this point, trying anything to break the case -- but the whole thing is just turning into a ridiculous mess and spiraling out of control.
The Omar thing is just as outlandish as anything that Omar normally does -- he's always existed sort of outside the reality of the show. It's not like he came away from the jump unscathed and went about his business -- he's just driven by revenge and it carries him beyond the pain to go continue his Marlo-hunting.
And I love how you can see cracks developing in Omar's "code" and his typical patience... first the mis-step in Monk's apartment that almost got him killed, breaking his 'no cursing' rule when he called Marlo "straight bitch", and then just blasting Sevino in the street... it's a different Omar. And that's why I'm worried for him in the end -- he's survived in large part due to that code and his patience, so slipping up is not a good sign. Revenge will do that to you though -- great story arc for Omar this season I think...
I'm sure that Simon and Co have a great finale in store for us. I can't wait until the next episode gets up online, it seems like forever since I got #7.. heh.

Re: The Wire-Season 5
So it just came up on demand as of midnight (Sunday night/Monday morning), right? Hopefully someone ups it to TPB or something quickly, I can't wait.
EDIT: Could someone check TPB and whatnot for me? I'm at work and don't want to be browsing torrent sites... I'm dying to know if this might be available for me when I get home.Last edited by Stumbleweed; 02-18-2008, 01:33 PM.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: The Wire-Season 5
Never start this show in the middle of a season. Wait until you can find the previous episodes (they should all be easily available online, sometimes streaming) before starting into a season for sure. Way too much missed to make it worthwhile at all really.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: The Wire-Season 5
I haven't read throught the entire thread but if this has been mentioned please excuse me...but if you have Time Warner cable and have HBO on demand, they show you next week's episode a week early. I watched next week's episode today at about 5 AM. After it went off they mentioned that there were only 2 episodes left. I won't have a reason to keep HBO except for Entourage...Carolina Pride!!!

Re: The Wire-Season 5
What an episode. Geez that was really unexpected, and so early in the show too. I spent the last 35 minutes of the show mainly thinking about what happened in the first 10-15. Episode 9 looks to be dynamite, can't wait. It's such a shame it's all coming to an end.PS: You guys are great.

SpoilerOmar's early death was not all that shocking because he isn't going to bring Marlo down, the cops are. I thought he might take out Chris,Cheese or Snoop though.
I wonder if Rawls's possible homosexuality is explored in the last two episodes?Comment

Re: The Wire-Season 5
SpoilerI kinda knew that would happen. I thought it would be some nobody junkie though. A big showdown between Omar and his enemies would have been too predictable. I knew they would kill him off out of nowhere.
With all these trained actors and schooled performers...not one can come close to conveying the pure anger and menace Snoop gives off with just a look. Her ish is real, and none of those dudes can copy it with acting skills. Steven King called her the most frightening female villain in TV history. I agree.
