I just wish they were a little louder...just a touch.

For the first day he thought it was his computer. After unplugging and rebooting about a dozen times, he finally called the IT department. I quickly emailed the it department and explained I was playing a prank on my buddy so they were "too busy" to come check it out that day. While he was messing with the computer and everything was unplugged, the thing beeped again. At this point he was very pissed because he had no idea where it is coming from.

For the rest of the day, every time it beeped, he would stop whatever he was doing and look around his office. I am in the office next to him, so if was typing for example. I would hear him stop and then start opening and closing his file cabinets. By the end of the first day, he had pulled his file cabinets away from the walls and had all of hi electronics on top of his desk.

For day 2 he was out of the office most of the day, so it wasn't to bad. He was back late in the afternoon and generally grunted or mumbled something ever time it beeped, followed by random banging and slamming. He also began keeping a log of beep times. I am acting very bothered by all of this and keep asking him to close his door.

Day 3, he got to work and it looked as if he hasn't had much sleep. I overheard him call the maintenance guy and tell him about the whole ordeal and that he thinks it is now coming from a power outlet in the wall! At this point, several of my coworkers are in on the fun and we come up with a plan to get him out of the office for a minute and I quickly turn it off. The maintenance guy comes in and messes around for 10 minutes with no beeps. I am dying in my office listening to them talk about where it is coming from. So after all that he leaves for lunch and I turn it back on. He has since called the maintenance guy back yelling that it is beeping again and he needs to get down here now.

I need to tell him soon, he is my friend so I am not worried about getting in trouble or anything, but I will probably be buying a lot of beers. Any suggestions on how to cap this thing off?

Oh man... no suggestions... but PLEASE keep us updated... that's great.

This is by far the funniest thing I've read in a long while.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

          Day 4 update...

It is driving him crazy. I walked in this morning and the computer is back on top of desk and unplugged. Apparently the noise is now coming from the battery back-up power supply or so he thinks. I have go to end this. Here is the plan...We have a lunch meeting today so I am going to grab it from his office and then plant it in his truck. It should fit under the seat and attach to the metal frame. If I time it just right, I can turn it on and place it just as he closes his door. This will accomplish 2 things for me. #1) After lunch he will wonder what the hell he did to stop the noise coming from his office. #2) After work he will discover a new beeping sound coming from his truck. At this point I hope he figures it out and calls me up. If not, he is driving out of town tomorrow for work and the madness will continue...I will update later

This is hilarious. I work from home and these are the only things that I miss from working in an office.

I'm going to order one and sneak it into the car of the practical joker at work. I guarantee he'll have his car into the shop within 24 hours.
