    2008 Oscars

    2/24/08 5 PT/8 ET

Jon Stewart hosts, which will almost single handily have me watching.

The only real comment I have is that Daniel Day Lewis= Lebron James. Without that performance the film is simply unwatchable to me.

Oh and Ellen Page is a bonafide dime.

If "No Country for Old Men" doesn't win Best Picture, the award loses all meaning.

Juno sucked. Michael Clayton shouldn't be nominated, despite being a decent movie, and DDL made There Will Be Blood. Atonement is the only one I don't know much about, so I can't comment there.

No doubt guys. What a great story, picture, performance. All around was a perfect film.

But I didn't think Juno sucked at all, probably just "overrated". That film had a lot of great elements, but let's be honest about it.. sheesh probably not Oscar-worthy.

You're right. I overexaggerated. It wasn't too bad.

I sure hope no country does win but atonement has me worried it has won a few awards so at least in that case this should be an interesting event

I thought Juno was a very good movie, but at no point did it even strike me as Oscar-worthy, an odd nomination for sure, but still a very good movie.

Juno was a fine movie, but there are a few movies every year that are good in the same Juno is...They just fly under the radar and don't gross $100+ million.

I only haven't seen TWBB and I wouldn't be shocked no matter who wins. If I had to choose, I would pick No Country.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I went off of everything I saw and Best Actress is the category I'm really not qualified to speak on. The only ones I don't feel really confident in is Original Screenplay (Michael Clayton) and Best Actress (Julie Christie).

while I'm here I do my top 5 list
                  5 Best Movies of 2007:

                  1. There Will Be Blood
                  2. Atonement
                  3. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
                  4. Michael Clayton
                  5. No Country for Old Men

Juno deserved the Oscar nom imo.

If No Country for Old Men DOES win, I think it'll be an injustice. The last half hour of that movie was absolutely worthless and boring.

Juno was the only other nominee for Best Picture that I saw, and I give it just the SLIGHTEST edge over NCFOM.

I don't think it was worthless at all. What makes the film so amazing is how subtle the scenes were throughout, yet it had such a resounding message. I understand though how some may find it slow or boring. I just hope those same people understood the major points of the message.

The last half hour of that movie was basically what the movie is all about. If you didn't "get" it, then I could see why you'd say that. If you just thought it was boring, I could maybe see that as well. But it was probably the farthest thing from worthless I can think of.

Yeah Chief, that's what I fear of those who say it was boring. If you didn't get the overtones of the message then I could see how one would say "worthless" or "boring". In my experience, I was very very very moved, almost to tears. I long to read the book.

Now don't get me started on There Will be Blood. If any other actor plays the main character I might be walking out of the theater.
