Is anyone else finding their musical tastes "mellowing" as they get older?

By no means am I ancient, but at 30 years old, I can definitely tell a difference in my music listening habits from when I was in college.

In my teens and my early 20s, I was always blasting heavy metal, etc. Korn, Deftones, Rage Against the Machine, Failure, Tool, Metallica, etc.

I swear...the only time I listen to most of that stuff now is when I'm working out.

If I'm driving or hanging around the house I'm listening to Al Green, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead (lighter Radiohead), Sia, Mazzy Star, Bob Marley..even oldies like Billie Holiday, etc.

Managing a nightclub on the weekends I've grown to despise a lot of the "thug rap" and years of blasting Heavy Metal have me looking for more "trip hop", easy listening, and acoustic stuff. Anyone else like this?

I guess in another 20 years I'll be listening to Big Band music from the 40s exclusively.

Sort of...when I was 10-11 all I listened to was rap music, but now I'm starting to listen to a lot more rock, alternative, and R&B. It started with just John Mayer and then advanced to a bunch of other artists.

If my tastes were to get mellower i'd be listen to classical music. I don't want that happening! I've always liked the older music and easy listening as well. In fact earlier I was listening to different versions of "when smoke gets in your eyes" before favoriting the Platters version on youtube.

Which leads me to ask, how the hell was Engelbert Humperdink (sp) so popular? The man absolutely butchered such a great song!

When I was 4-5, I listened to a lot of softer stuff...Winnie the Pooh, Disney books on tape, etc. Now I find myself listening to harder stuff like Spongebob.

It definitely happens. Same thing here, in college it was alot of hard stuff, alot of gangsta rap, and now its more alt rock and "lighter" stuff

A little bit I guess, but I still listen to the same bands i did 15 years ago. Grew up on punk bands, and still listen to the same stuff, and still go to punk shows occasionally. But I do like to listen to some acoustic stuff sometimes, it makes for good drinking music!

I still like the same songs (rap) that I did when I was a teen but after High School my tastes and preference for music definately changed...much more into underground and conscious rap

I can't say mine have mellowed. I've always liked a wide range of musical genres and my tastes are ever expanding, but I wouldn't say they are mellowing.

I've noticed it lately myself. When I was younger I used to listen to angry rap and metal music, now it is more mellow stuff. I've been learning to appreciate a lot of stuff from the 60's and 70's lately.
