Upon first hearing of PETA calling for the suspension of Eight Belles (the horse that died in the Derby) jockey Gabriel Saez, I thought it was ridiculous. I still do, but there argument poised new questions about the sport. This from PETA spokeswoman Kathy Guillermo:
"What we really want to know, did he feel anything along the way? If he didn't then we can probably blame the fact that they're allowed to whip the horses mercilessly."
I've often wonder about the pain tasted by the horses from the whip, especially if it means they are running when they shouldn't be.
