I am going to look into this phone some more. I like the key board and it looks like it has a sweet screen and touch too would be nice. I am not sold on the Apple four yet.

Not talking about the network, I'm talking about the phone actually locking up temporarily. Doesn't even show the busy icon. Moving the trackball or pressing any buttons does nothing. Either have to have the patience to wait it out or just yank the battery and start over.

        Re: The Official BlackBerry Thread

Man...I remember when I saw the Blackberry back in 2002 when it first came out as a smart phone. As bulky as it was and having absolutely no reason to have it (business features), I just knew I would have one eventually...I became a BB advocate if only out of infatuation.

Fast forward to around 07 or 08...after slothing through years of Nokias and Motorolas, I finally got my hands on a Curve and loved it. When the touch screen phone started becoming the new hotness, I was jealous because I knew RIM would never go that route. Then the Storm came out and needless to say, JOYGASM.

Now with iphone and droid exerting their dominance, I find my loyalty wavering. I doubt I would do any more on one of them than I do now on my Storm 2 but they just seem everything Kanye..."harder, better, faster, stronger". I'm hoping OS 6 would be the thing to bridge the gap but one poster made a good point...the new OS would only bring RIM on equal footing with what the other phones already possess and are likely getting ready to improve on.

That said, I expect OS 6 to have its initial glitches/bugs as does everything new but if it doesnt impress by the end of the year, I may be moving on to greener pastures. I favor Droid over Iphone so we'll see.

            Re: The Official BlackBerry Thread

This phone should've been released this time a year ago. Look at the specs, it sucks. Hell, even low-end Androids have better specs. It isn't even close to iphone. If email is your life...Blackberry does that better than any other phone. I had 3 different blackberries the last 4 years. I finally got bored with the platform. I wanted a multimedia smartphone. For the first time, I think my Evo may last two years. RIM keeps re-hashing the same phone every few months.

EG is correct, Blackberry 6 is only gonna be on the new Blackberries and like 3 or 4 models currently out. Almost two weeks in, I don't miss my Blackberry at all. Hell, even got my wife about to kick her Tour (crap Blackberry) to the curb for an Evo. I still love Blackberry and I want to see RIM do well, but I don't see it. They are too far behind and it's getting worse. They make this an exclusive with ATT for $199...same price point as iPhone...same price point as Captivate? Stupid.

I love BBM too but it wasn't enough to keep me on Blackberry. There's a small little group of OS guys that have a OS Group going. I miss choppin it up with them but hell we all just installed Cnected and we chat on that now.

"There's not much in the way of official statements on this one just yet, but itp.net is reporting that a recently pushed out update for all BlackBerry users on the UAE-based carrier Etisalat is not a "performance enhancement patch" as advertised, but rather some spyware that could potentially give Etisalat the ability to keep an eye on its customers' messages. The first suspicions about the update apparently arose when users noticed dramatically reduced battery life and slower than usual performance from their phones, which led to a bit of detective work from programmer Nigel Gourlay, who pegged the software down as coming from electronic surveillance company SS8. While it's not switched on by default, the software can reportedly let Etisalat flip the switch on phones one by one and monitor their emails and text messages -- or it could if it hadn't completely bogged down the network. Apparently, the software wasn't designed for such a large scale deployment, which resulted in the slowdown and battery drain as some 100,000 BlackBerrys constantly tried and failed to sign in to the one registration server for the software."

                  Is this the actual reason?

Yeah basically Saudia Arabia, UAE and India don't trust their citizens and want spyware added to the phone for they can spy on their citizens in case they try to become too much like the west and want freedom.

The only blackberry phone that is crap to me is the old blackberry curve's, and the radio nextel curves.

Other than that, anything else they make is pretty stable, even the old one's with the wheel on the side, those things are solid like tanks.

I work in telecommunications so its just ideal for me to keep up with this stuff because we work on them, and our company uses blackberry.

This is a copy model of the palm pre to have a touch screen with a keyboard on it at the same time. They have to keep up with the changing technology and it might be a much better solution than the storm at this point.

The trackpad ensures you dont have the trackball issues which suck, the large screen is nice (try using google earth on it) the keyboard is there to accomodate those who just hate touchscreens, which has the same keys as the bold, nice touch there.

You dont have to click down the glass like the storm and the touch set up seems as good as it can be as far as being able to hit the correct buttons without running over the other.

Again, it all depends on what phone you want though

I check out this phone today. A long with the Captivate and Iphone4. I like this phone better for two reason, one is it has a keyboard. I do not do good with the touch keyboard. So I think it will be most likely the Torch. Especially if my wife gets a black berry bold. How the heck to people use that touch keyboard by the way? 23 is the Torch a good phone in your opinion. I know the Cap is really good too, but I really can't do that touch keyboard at all. And forget swipe I have no idea how to do that. Thanks.

Yea I currently have the Curve that I use for work and I'm not a fan of that AT ALL and definitely not a fan of the trackball either so I'm glad this one doesn't have it.

I currently have the HTC Fuze(which they no longer make)and I don't have any problems aside from the Internet going slow every now and then. I was leaning towards getting the Iphone but seeing how there's still a 2 week wait on it, I may just go ahead and get this instead.
