It's a different show, but I'm pretty sure that every actor who appeared in Oz made an appearance on Law & Order at some point. Hell, a few of them were mainstays on both

Working my way into season 2 now thanks to HBO Go. Amy Ryan is kind of flipping me out since I know her from acting crazy on The Office.

Not a huge role on The Wire, but she's a really good actress. I didn't see Gone Baby Gone for which she won an Oscar. I was hoping it was on Netflix but no dice.

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire

So I made it 3 episodes into season 2 thus far.

I already miss the Low Rise, but like the angle they've taken going "up the ladder" of the police department and his little "stained glass" dispute with the port workers. Andy Bellefleur is, like Amy Ryan, giving me fits because I keep expecting to hear that cartoonish southern drawl and big wild eyes when he's talking.

Whatever Amy Ryan is doing its working for her. Something about her just does it for me.

McNulty is an even bigger ******* and I love it.

D might as well just admit to himself that he can't escape the game. Stringer's taking his clothes and bumping his girl. Avon's still firmly in control. D needs to get his head back and stop trying to cut himself off.

Daniels really manned up at the end of season 1. Each scene I expected him to lay down, he just stood up and threw it all back up in the faces of his superiors.

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire

Well, with the end of season 2 under my belt I think I can officially move Mad Men and Six Feet Under down the ladder and give The Wire my coveted "favorite TV show" status. Seriously. The dock aspect of the season wasn't as compelling as the Pit and the whole set up of the detail from the first season, but I loved diving into the structure and chain of command politics of the police force. Maybe I'm pulling a Stumbleweed here, but this series really makes me want to be a detective. I don't think any other series has captured that "thrill" without being so over-the-top with its plot and turns that everything feels legitimate. Not to mention that everything that happens doesn't just pop out of the air for no reason, but everything is built upon some other motivation or factor that while it makes the act itself dramatic, its not a surprise or a 'How can they do that' moment that a lot of crime dramas seem to suffer from.

Omar's testimony against Berg was amazing. This show is full of alpha characters and I love when the writers let them go at each other and eat some scenery.

Man, Stringer's britches getting too big for him. First taking out D then going after Avon's muscle, not to mention tapping D's shorty. I'm assuming a lot of the street stuff in season 2 is setting up for a bigger story and I can't wait to see it unfold.

I felt bad for Sabotka and D'Angelo getting dropped, but those two guys (well, more D'Angelo I suppose) are like Eddard Stark in that you can't splashing in the water and not expect to get wet. Either get in the game or stay out. Of course Ziggy ****ed everything up massively, but Frank shouldn't have opened up his mouth to the cops before talking to the Greek.

Next season should be interesting, but you guys know already.

                That's all I'll say in regards to Season 3, 4 and 5.

I just ordered season 3. It should get here Friday. Another weekend full of The Wire.

Last weekend my intent was to limit myself to one disc a day, but that obviously didn't happen as a I blew through the season in about two days.

If Season 2 (on first watch even, it's usually better the second time around for most people) made you move this to your coveted favorite TV show spot....

....I have no idea what category Season 3 and 4 are going to propel this show into.

Season 2 was just affirming my selection, I assure you. Season 1 pretty much catapulted to the top because it is an amazing start to a show. Season 1 of Mad Men is more consistent and has more "power" moments, but The Wire is just deep and rich. I feel like everything can be concretely explained. All the reviews for the show compare it to a work of literature and I think you can make a strong case.

Season two's story overall was weaker and less compelling, but I thought taking a wider look at the police department and its players was pretty interesting. The Saboktas certainly don't rival the Barksdale crew, but the policing is what I found pushing the show forward and it was great. Still, there's a sense of continuous building of this universe that really no other show contains. Where most shows build its universe in the first season and let the actors play within, so far The Wire seems to not only be building its characters, but building and enriching the world around them as well. That cemented it for me that The Wire can be backed as best show ever.

Its pretty bizarre to now think of Mad Men as being flashy in its performance and story-telling, but that's how I feel. The Wire is completely grounded. Everything really comes together to give it a nice, real-world roughed edge.

                        /Blzer

Anyway, my dvds should be here tomorrow so hallelujah.

                          Yeah.

Like I said....Season 3 and 4 should, apparently, cement this as "Greatest Thing Ever" if that's how you feel after the first two.

Edit - just so people know, I rank 'em as 3-4-1-5-2.

Even though season 2 is my least favorite out of all the season. It still plays an important roll in the story. I can see how some would compare the show to a work of literature.

It's all connected. Which bothers me when someone who missed the show when it aired on HBO, picks up the DVD's and skips season 2 half way through.

I'll admit during my first viewing season 2 was kind of a drag. After the series ended, I started to appreciate it for the part in plays in the overall story.

Much more enjoyable the next go around.
